Sister Noble, Ansamma George, RN gained the distinction of Westview Health Care Center’s Employee of the Month for June 2024. Sister Noble is one of the Nursing Supervisors at Westview; most often working during the third shift. She has been an endearing member of their team since adding her talents to the Westview family in February of 2021. Sister Noble is also a practicing Nun of Saint James’ Church in Danielson, CT. Her desire to help fellow souls is sourced directly from the overflowing compassion of her heart.

She credits her passion for nursing care to an experience she had while in India. When she was taking care of a patient there as she performed volunteering work, the patient presented with a wound that was becoming badly infected. She started praying for the patient’s recovery, and low and behold, the wound began to heal. Sister Noble acknowledged the power of prayerful care, and then decided that she could have even further impact by combining her faith with knowledge as a Registered Nurse. She began her education and ultimately earned her degree in nursing from St. John’s Medical College Hospital in Bangalore, India.

Sister Noble practices her devout work in India as well as during her time here in the United States. Patients, residents, and staff at Westview really appreciate Sister Noble’s special way of delivering care—especially during the precious hours of the overnight shift. She remarked: “I really enjoy the people that I work with because we all work together. On the night shift, I find that we make a great team. It’s always teamwork that gets us through the evening, and I know that I can trust all of my staff. I have confidence in every one of my colleagues—from the other nurses to our Certified Nursing Assistants. I always get great support from the rest of the staff. I feel so comfortable working here because I know there is always someone there for me too.”

During her off time, Sister Noble enjoys gardening, cooking, and baking as a strong passion. Sister Noble likes to listen to music—especially with bedridden patients. She will go in and listen to music with them, and hold their hands as a means of offering additional compassion to the medical aid she provides. She has a sibling, Sister Brigit Pulickudiyil, and she enjoys their time together during pastimes and prayers.

Her heart is full of love for the patients whose care is entrusted to her. “Sometimes the patients are feeling down, and I will talk to them to help them feel more comfortable. Recently I had a patient and the first night she was with us she was very unsure of her condition and prognosis. I told her that in the early stages of her treatment, things may go up and down but you will feel better tomorrow. She later told me that our conversation on her first night here made her commit to her own full recovery and she was very thankful.” She went on further about her commitment to helping others:

“I believe very strongly that the secret to all of my success, especially in healthcare, is the background of prayer. Without failing, every single day, I offer all of my patients, colleagues, and this facility to take God’s hand and to help them in caring for others. I feel strong grace in every situation—whether it is small or critical. I also get true joy by bringing Holy Communion to the patients who wish to receive it. I am blessed to have this role in patients’ lives!”

Westview Administrator and Executive Vice President David T. Panteleakos spoke highly of Sister Noble’s impact at Westview Health Care Center. “We are blessed to have Sister Noble, Ansamma George, RN as a member of our community here at Westview. She has made a profoundly positive impression on patients, residents, and her fellow colleagues in this community of care. I am proud to see her dedication to professional medical care along with her faithful devotion to bedside manner. Congratulations to Sister Noble!”

Nicole Masciarelli, SLP is Westview’s April 2024 Employee of the Month. Nicole is a Speech Language Pathologist in the setting of the health care center in Dayville, CT. Beginning her tenure at Westview in 2017, she has been a valued member of the team throughout that time. She credits her passion for speech and language pathology to an early memory from her own adolescence. Nicole was a babysitter during those years, and she recalls watching over a girl who was non-verbal. The experience of assisting this girl to communicate effectively lent Nicole an instilling inspiration to enter the field of Speech-Language Pathology. After she finished Graduate School, Nicole realized that she wanted to work with a wide range of patients—from youth to adult, aiding their efforts in Speech-Language Pathology.

Her vocation is beyond vocalization in its scope: as a Speech Language Pathologist she also aids patients with improving cognitive communication comprehension and swallowing disorders. Not only does she provide her expertise to seniors in the care setting of the skilled nursing facility and other adults in outpatient practice, but she now proudly works with children at Westview Child Care Center in the pursuit of working through their individual challenges. Consistently smiling on a daily basis, Nicole is a delightful colleague among the dedicated staff striving to help patients in Westview’s continuum of care.

Growing up in Torrington, CT, Nicole now resides in Griswold, CT. She attended Torrington High School and earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The College of Saint Rose. Nicole and her son are always seeking to share their next adventure together. The Masciarellis have a dog named Stella who is an excellent companion and promoter of walks. Baking being one of Nicole’s favorite activities, she loves to make cookies, homemade snickers bars, and other complex pastries. She is an eager reader, often enjoying historical fiction, thrillers, and modern literature. As we enter spring, Nicole cannot wait to resume gardening—both vegetables and flowers. Nicole enjoys exercise, especially during numerous rounds of tag and active water-gun fights with her son.

Nicole was deferential and grateful as she received this Employee of the Month distinction. She reflected on the recognition by saying “I am truly honored to have been chosen by my colleagues for this award. It is a humbling and unique opportunity to provide care across the generations entrusted to Westview’s care.” She praised her colleagues for the way they all work wonderfully together in pursuit of positive patient outcomes. “My ability to serve our community is made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Westview team.” She further elaborated on her joy in her profession, stating how much she enjoys the range of patients she is privileged to work with. “I really like being in different settings of Speech-Language Pathology. It offers me the opportunity to understand different rehabilitation journeys that our patients embark upon.”

Westview Administrator David T. Panteleakos was pleased to see Nicole earn this honor and pronounced his praise: “Nicole is a valuable member of our therapy team and a great member of our Westview community. I am happy to see this recognition of her efforts in speech language pathology. It is a much-needed therapy for those who seek our services, and she works masterfully with them and among our team at Westview. Congratulations to Nicole!”

Westview Health Care Center is a 103-bed inpatient skilled nursing facility, which includes a distinct and self-contained 28-bed sub-acute short term rehabilitation unit and outpatient physical, occupational and speech therapies including: Sports Medicine, Adolescent/Pediatric, Adult, and Aquatic Outpatient Centers, all dedicated to providing outstanding quality health care services. The Dayville, Connecticut facility is consistently ranked among the top nursing facilities in the nation, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as well as U.S. News and World Report, consecutively for the past 15 years.

Katy Holzer has achieved recognition from Westview as the organization’s March 2024 Employee of the Month. Katy is the Director of Westview Child Care Center: the newest member of Westview’s family of services. Joining the team at their Dayville, CT location in April of 2019, Katy has been and continues to be a visionary leader for the child care program and an integral member of the continuum of services offered at Westview. She was instrumental in building the activities and educational programs before Westview Child Care Center opened as well as being considerably connected in discussions and developments of the physical structure of this space for care, learning, and fun alongside leadership and colleagues from Westview. Since Westview Child Care Center opened in September 2023, Katy has cultivated a culture of growth through play for children aged 6 months to 12 years old. The troupe of highly-qualified child care associates working at the center are proud and confident in her as a leader, and the families of the client children are embraced and engaged through Katy’s thoughtfulness and communications. She refers to the children entrusted to her care as her “students,” and observations of their daily activities convey classrooms full of ear-to-ear smiles and cheer.

Katy grew up in Northeast Connecticut; coming of age amidst the woodlands, hills, and pastures of Pomfret, CT. She is the daughter of Dr. Marjorie Holzer and Dr. Neri Holzer—who had over 50 years of combined service on Day Kimball Hospital’s medical staff as a pediatrician and an ear, nose, and throat specialist, respectively. After graduating from The Woodstock Academy, she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from the University of Connecticut. Katy went on to attain a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from The Graduate School at Nichols College. When Katy and her husband Alex Williams welcomed their son Zachary to the world in 2020, she achieved another degree of knowledge through motherhood. Zachary was among the first class of students upon Westview Child Care Center’s opening, and he provided some key moments as a model in the early marketing of Westview’s new offering. He remains “happily enrolled to this day” according to Katy.

Throughout her life Katy has been an equestrian enthusiast; riding horses since she was very young. She still rides competitively in a series of hunter-class and jumper-class horse contests. In addition to nurturing family bonds and all of her professional accolades, Katy devotes loving care to her horses. Her stable includes her son Zachary’s pony, Merlin: a pearly-white unicorn who may just make his way to Westview Child Care Center for a magical visit this summer! Fitness is important to Katy and her husband Alex (as he is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and sports medicine specialist). She likes to take family walks and hikes around the Quiet Corner, and she gets even more physical activity as an avid tennis player.

Receiving Westview’s company-wide distinction of Employee of the Month provided Katy with a powerful compliment. Ever the deft, deferential leader, she was stirred to acknowledge all of her allies in Westview Child Care Center’s passionate pursuit. “I am deeply grateful for the support and encouragement of the entire Westview team. In particular, I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation to our Executive Vice President, David T. Panteleakos. His invaluable guidance has been a driving force behind this new facility’s achievements,” Katy remarked. “I am inspired to state that this recognition is also a reflection of the amazing work performed by Westview Child Care Center’s entire team. Being surrounded by this amount of talent and passion for healthcare and early child education is so rewarding! Each day, I arrive here with immense joy as a contributor to our team’s mission.”

Westview’s Executive Vice President David T. Panteleakos stated, “Katy is such a welcomed addition to our leadership team! She has been so instrumental in the creation, development, and continued success of this latest addition to our Westview family, Westview Child Care Center. Every day, Katy brings a level of commitment and professionalism to her work that is impressive. Her consistent demeanor and outstanding dedication are attributes to which we all may aspire to achieve. Congratulations to Katy on this well-deserved selection and recognition!”

Susan Prest, Housekeeping Supervisor, garnered recognition as Westview’s January 2024 Employee of the Month. Susan is a highly esteemed member of the Westview family; having worked at the Dayville, CT skilled nursing facility since 2021. As part of the highly dedicated housekeeping team that maintains the cleanliness, courtesy, and collegiality of the whole building, Susan has a keen eye and she maintains constant curation of her responsibilities—and those of all who surround her. She offers a great deal of praise to her colleagues humbly stating that they are the reason for her success. Nonetheless: Susan is an amazing contributor in her own regard.

When you walk into the building of Westview Health Care Center, you will notice that there is a meticulously manicured message presented by the visage of the indoor aesthetics. In addition to the delightfully designed architecture, exterior environmental fixtures, and aptly appointed accessories, the green-room welcome at Westview is because Susan and her colleagues in the Support Services Department pertain to a particularly precious path of performance in the upkeep of the floors, walls, ceilings, carpets, cementing, and carpentry of the Dayville, CT facility. In this effort, Susan takes great pride. She declared during the discussion of this recent Employee of the Month distinction: “I love what I do! It is my pride and joy to be a part of the team that takes care of this amazing place.”

Susan is one of eight siblings, and she greatly appreciates the bonds shared between herself and her brothers and sisters. She is quite close to her father—literally and figuratively. He resides at Country Living at Westview Commons, which is a sister facility to Westview Health Care Center. She credits her earnest, determined, and kind work ethic from his inspiration. After graduating from Killingly High School, Susan attended Southeastern Academy in Kissimmee, Florida. Susan thoroughly enjoys spending time with her husband Vail and with her father “Morrie” at Westview Commons. One of her favorite things to do is to go out to lunch with them at local dining destinations.

Upon receiving this award Susan was highly appreciative and outwardly obliged towards the Westview family. “I’m really honored and grateful to earn the recognition as one of Westview’s Employees of the Month.” Susan went on to praise her teammates: “I thank all of my colleagues for their guidance, kindness, and generosity as we learn, earn, and yearn together.”

Westview Health Care Center recently celebrated the 10th Birthday of Westview Sports Medicine! The multi-generational caregivers at Westview have enjoyed a decade of success stories, optimistic outlooks, and comedic commentary among their clients and their team of therapists, trainers, and pathologists in the Sports Medicine Department. The thousands of patients that they have worked with over these years have provided them immeasurable joy. With a big smile on Westview hearts and a big smile on Westview faces, they look forward to years and years of continued achievements at Westview Sports Medicine.

Established in 2013, Westview Sports Medicine became another branch on the family tree of Westview Health Care Center—the skilled nursing facility in Dayville, CT. Westview Sports Medicine has blossomed with patients from Westview Health Care Center, Country Living at Westview Commons, and the community at large. With the recent opening of Westview Child Care Center (located on the same campus corner of Ware Road as Westview’s familial facilities) the team at Westview Sports Medicine is thrilled to think about the positive possibilities in helping the youngest members of our area to reach their highest physical potential.

Westview sends deep gratitude to Westview Sports Medicine’s Director Alex Williams for his bold visions and strong leadership with this program. When Alex was contacted for commentary on this occasion, he reflected on the honor he has in working with such amazing people over the last 10 years.

“I have such fond memories about the last ten years here at Westview Sports Medicine and I am very excited for the years ahead. I would like to acknowledge the roster of outstanding therapists, trainers, and pathologists that have contributed to our success in the last decade. Additionally, I want to thank our wonderful community of clients and patients who have helped us to build the brand of Westview Sports Medicine as we work to help them with their athletic and orthopedic needs.”

On the road to recovery with the Alter-G treadmill!

John Beausoleil is a physical therapy assistant at Westview Sports Medicine. A devastating car accident led to significant harm to him, but he is confidently running on his road to recovery—literally! John is back to working alongside his colleagues at Westview Sports Medicine to treat patients, and now also works with them as a patient himself in pursuit of healing goals. John suffered a cervical fracture and a serious ankle injury. Having an active lifestyle is John’s preference. He maintains his property with industrious ambition, he loves to golf and smash drives down the fairway, and has a newfound passion of running 20-30 miles every week. With its unique support system, Westview Sports Medicine’s Alter-G Anti-Gravity Treadmill reduces up to 100% of the weight of the patient using it. Using this state-of-the-art device begins with the patient putting on a pair of stretchy, yet supportive shorts in their chosen size. These shorts have an industrial-strength zipper that encircles the patient’s waist, so when they step onto the platform of the Alter-G, a frame attached to a bubble surrounding the whole apparatus is raised to the proper height for the individual. They are then zipped in to attach themselves to this bubble and the Alter-G’s air compressor fills the chamber with positive air pressure. Now, with the patient’s weight effectively eliminated from the restrictions of gravity, their therapist will work with them to find the proper speed and weight-bearing assistance for their given therapeutic treatment. Some patients are seeking to improve their gait or restore their mobility while running following an injury or surgery. Other patients are looking to walk again after being immobilized for one reason or another—like one of Westview’s residents, a 90-year-old woman who had been wheelchair bound for years! John is working on the Alter-G to return to running and has the ambition to run a half marathon in October of this year. Reestablishing his stride on the Alter-G has helped John in the process of gaining confidence in his mobility. He is highly optimistic about his trajectory and extremely proud to be working with his colleagues on the other side of the therapist/patient relationship.

“I completely trust my colleagues with their input and direction in so many ways. They notice where my deficits are in ways that I can’t. Sometimes our own perception of how things look and how we do things is different than what other people can see from the outside. In our brains we might think our form is good, but when someone else looks at you they can tell where you’re lacking mobility. Having our therapists contribute their input to compare with my own perception is invaluable. We always have a great time working together, and laughing with them as I exercise in therapy makes it so enjoyable!”

Mike Rutt, DPT has joined the team of physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, and certified athletic trainers at Westview Sports Medicine! Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from the University of Connecticut, and while he was there, he ran for the school’s varsity track and field team. He has been running throughout his life, and trained to specialize in the 800-meter distance. After graduating from UConn with his bachelor’s degree, he ran professionally for 5 years, and began coaching track and field to the next generations of runners. Ultimately Mike returned to UConn and earned a post-graduate degree as a Doctor of Physical Therapy. Westview Sports Medicine is where Mike completed the necessary clinical internship for earn his DPT. We are thrilled to have him now return in this professional role! According to Mike, the feeling is mutual:

“I’m excited to be here! During my clinical at Westview Sports Medicine, I gained a good sense of the therapists that are here, how they operate, and how much they enjoy being here. Seeing how well they treat patients really drew me towards wanting to be a part of the Westview team. The facility and the equipment that we have to treat patients here is amazing—as a runner, I’m especially enthusiastic to work with patients on our Alter-G Anti-Gravity Treadmill. You don’t see those in too many physical therapy clinics! I knew pretty quickly that I wanted to work at Westview. I’m really looking forward to working with this patient population alongside the tight-knit team at Westview Sports Medicine.”

Mike lives in Tolland, CT with his wife Katie and their two children. We wish him continued success with us here at Westview Sports Medicine—we’re happy to be running with Mike!

Westview Health Care Center — Employee Spring Fling 2023 — "Sandtasia" Sand Sculpture 06/02/2023

To honor our amazing staff and celebrate our collective gains and corporate growth, we invite our friends at Sandtasia Sand Sculptors of the Ocean State to visit each year and construct one of their incredible sandcastles. Sandtasia is a Rhode Island based team of sandcastle artists that have traveled throughout New England and across America to showcase their art at community events, to corporations, and in competitions up and down the Atlantic Coast. Steve Topazio and his sister Jessica are at the core of Sandtasia. At the core of their sculptures is a densely packed mound of sand that is melded together in the stage that they refer to as “the pound down.” Once they have this thick structure in shape, they begin carving the sand away to reveal their chosen design. The location of this sandy structure remains in the same place as previous years, just off of Westview Health Care Center’s recreation patio. We love the fact that our patients and residents get to see this multi-day process live, in real-time! This year, we asked Steve and Jessica to create a design that honors the newest member of our Westview family: Westview Child Care Center. They developed a very thoughtful concept conveying several children working together to build a sandcastle. Steve and Jessica were sure to label the front of the sculpture with our logo for Westview Child Care Center. This sandcastle conveys our sincerest hopes for our new endeavor: to help the children entrusted to our care in building remarkable structures, building important knowledge, and building lasting memories alongside each other. We invite you to enjoy this video showing their process and the finished sandcastle. Thanks again to Steve and Jessica for their artistry, and perpetual thanks to our stellar team at Westview for inspiring us to build even higher ambitions!
