Dolly Drive 2024 is in the books! đ On behalf of everyone here at Vista Maria, weâd like to send a heartfelt thank you to those who joined the joy and played it forward â donating dolls, action figures and games for children on our holiday wish list. Weâre so grateful you got the chance to experience our mission and make a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve. And we hope to see you next year!

On December 3, as millions of people unite to lift one another up, strengthen communities, and spark real, lasting change, we invite you to do the same.
HEREâS HOW YOU CAN HELP:
âĄď¸ Mark your calendar. Set a reminder for Giving Tuesday, because every act of generosity helps a child realize theyâre worth celebrating.
âĄď¸ Give. Visit our website and make a gift. Your donation will provide the resources, care and love that children need to believe in their own potential.
âĄď¸ Spread the word. Tell your friends and family why you support Vista Maria and how weâre helping vulnerable individuals find hope and healing. (And donât forget to use the hashtag and tag us. Weâd love to see the impact youâre making!)
This year, we have more wish lists than ever, with 140 that need to be adoptedâand theyâre now available! For many of our youth, this was their first time creating a wish list, and it will also be the first time they receive gifts they personally asked for.đDonât waitâsign up quickly to make a childâs holiday unforgettable.

Happy Halloween from all of us at Vista Maria! đ Earlier this week, we kicked off the festivities with our annual Trunk or Treat, and it was nothing short of magical.
A heartfelt thank you to all the incredible volunteers and supporters who helped bring this event to life â you truly made a difference. From the creative trunks to the excited smiles, our youth created memories that will last long after the candy is gone. And we couldnât be more grateful. đ§Ą

Vista Maria Health Services Manager Carrie Templer exemplifies dedication and zeal in all she does. As both a manager and a supportive team member, her commitment to ensuring the youth receive the care they need is unwavering. Whether assisting across buildings or keeping the clinic in compliance, Carrie consistently goes the extra mile.
Recently, when she encountered staff supporting a youth in distress, Carrie didnât just check in and move on. Instead, she stayed, offering her calming presence and genuine care for both the youth and her colleagues. Her compassion and zeal truly shone through.
Carrieâs smile and positive attitude, no matter the situation, reflect her deep commitment to making a difference. Thank you, Carrie, for always showing up with kindness and heart.
At Vista Maria, weâre fiercely dedicated to empowering young women who have endured the devastating impact of sexual exploitation â helping them find the courage to heal and embrace a life beyond trauma. And while we know countless adolescents suffered in silence, weâre honored that 11 individuals discovered a sanctuary of safety and strength in our WINGS program last year. đŞ˝
At Vista Maria, we believe every young person deserves a space that feels like their own. That's why we encourage the youth in our care to decorate and personalize their rooms. Whether itâs adding favorite colors, artwork or small touches that make them feel at home, these rooms become more than just a place to sleep. They become a space for growth, healing and self-expression. đ¨
Want to bring holiday magic to the youth at Vista Maria? This yearâs Wish List program is our largest yet, with more youth and families than ever hoping for a holiday filled with joy. Wish lists for 2024 will be available in early November, and your thoughtful gifts will be the highlight of their holiday. In the past, this program has filled up quickly, so be sure to sign up early to adopt a wish list and make a difference in a young person's life.đ

About Us
Our History
Our Foundation
In 1883, five Sisters of the Good Shepherd arrived in downtown Detroit to the Ward Mansion on Fort Street to establish their first home. The industrial revolution left thousands of young girls and women behind, most of them living and working in desperate conditions. By the turn of the century, 33 Sisters were caring for more than 200 girls and young women.
Over the next 30 years, the House of the Good Shepherd continued to expand services, but quickly outgrew their facilities. The Ford family was aware of the work the Sisters were doing and presented a solution to their space issues. They deeded the Sisters 50 acres of land on West Warren Avenue in Dearborn Heights for $1 and immediately began taking steps to build residence halls, a school, a powerhouse, and an auditorium/ gymnasium.
