Dogs, like humans, can experience anxiety or fear for a variety of reasons! Identifying what triggers your dog's anxiety is crucial because it helps you address the root cause.
Here are some steps to help:
✅ Make sure to observe their behavior and pay attention to what situations cause signs of fear or anxiety, such as trembling, hiding, barking, or pacing.
✅ Provide a safe, quiet space where your dog can retreat if they are feeling overwhelmed. This could be a crate, a quiet room, or a cozy bed in a familiar area of the house.
✅ Consult your vet or trainer: If your dog’s anxiety seems severe or you’re unsure how to help, consult with a vet or a professional dog trainer. Sometimes anxiety can be due to underlying medical issues or might benefit from professional behavioral modification techniques.
If your dog is acting anxious or fearful, reach out to our team for help! We offer virtual training services or in-person in Metro Atlanta.
Halloween can be fun for the whole family, but it’s important to ensure that your dog stays safe and comfortable with all the spooky festivities. By keeping these tips in mind, you can ensure your dog has a safe and stress-free Halloween!

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our long time friend and client, Andrea Laiosa. We have known Andrea for over 16 years. She attended Canine PhD's first Manners Class in a parking lot in Inman Park. Andrea was one of the most dedicated pet parents we have had the pleasure of working with. She brought her dogs to classes weekly. She worked tirelessly and diligently to help her first rescue, Lily, overcome severe anxiety and emotional trauma. To our amazement, Lily went onto compete in large agility trials! After Lily's passing, Andrea adopted Penny, a small stray dog that another Canine PhD client found in N. Georgia. Andrea was a huge advocate of animal rescue, animal welfare, and reward based training. We are absolutely shattered and devastated by this loss. Andrea's laughter and kindness will live forever in hearts. May her memory be a blessing to her family, friends and to everyone who knew Andrea and loved her.
We have been teaching reactive dog classes for 16 years. This is a video of a dog doing a “set up” and preparing for class. A month ago, this pup could not be this close to another dog without barking and lunging. Well done, Casey for getting this pup prepped for class! ❤️
New Perfect Puppy class starts Friday, August 9th at 12:00pm!
While Penny was boarding with us, Diane took her to agility class for a little bit of fun! Penny is an amazing rescue who brings joy to everyone she meets!
Daliah is a regular at Canine PhD. While she stays with us, Daliah plays with our younger pups and friendly adult dogs. She also works as the perfect decoy for reactive dog set-ups. We love this versatile girl so much!

The amazing Casey Griffin (who just earned her Fear Free Certification) is playing the “Bucket Game” with Wagner. This game can help veterinary visits become more predictable and less stressful. Nice job, Casey and Wagner! Congratulations to Casey for becoming a Fear Free Certified Professional. ❤️
