U.S. Army Col. Anthony Hudson took charge of the 642nd Regional Support Group during an assumption of command ceremony Saturday, June 22, at Fort McClellan, Ala. Hudson, an Alabama native whose most recent position was officer in charge of a detachment of the Army Materiel Command-Army Reserve Element, told the Soldiers present to be proud of their service and emphasized the importance for them to maintain readiness. He said he hopes to educate troops on the benefits of the Army Reserve and encourage them to stay in for long haul.

Service members, friends and family members attended the event overseen by Col. Dawn Johnson, commander of the 143rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary). The 642nd Regional Support Group, located in Decatur, Ga., provides command and control for combat services support units throughout four states – Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and South Carolina.

The 642nd Regional Support Group invites you to watch its Assumption of Command ceremony here live 2 p.m. (CT) Saturday, June 22, from Fort McClellan, Ala. Col. Dawn Johnson will transfer command of the Army Reserve brigade to Col. Anthony Hudson.

Juneteenth marks the liberation of enslaved African Americans and the ongoing fight for equality. The U.S. Army played a major role in implementing the Emancipation Proclamation and ending segregation. Today we salute the bravery, sacrifices, and contributions of African American soldiers, both past and present.

Soldiers assembled the fun for a 642nd Regional Support Group family day event June 8 at the Reserve Center in Decatur, Ga. Various games, music and a lunchtime cookout were capped with a ceremonial cake cutting in honor of this month's 249th Army birthday. Our thanks to everyone who worked to make the family celebration a joy for all.
