The public is invited to join county officials and parks department staff at the dedication ceremony.

DeKalb PAL has partnered with the City of Tucker and the Atlanta Hawks to host a "Rumble in Atlanta" three -on-three, two-game elimination basketball tournament on Saturday, April 22. The tournament will take place at Tucker High School located at 5036 Lavista Road, Tucker. DeKalb police, firemans and members of the AAU team will be participating.

DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond will deliver an evening State of the County Address to citizens and community stakeholders Tuesday, April 4, at 7 p.m., at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center, located at 3181 Rainbow Dr, Decatur. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for the event.
CEO Thurmond will recap the first 90 days of his administration and share details of initiatives to come in 2017.

DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond will give an update on progress made toward addressing the water billing crisis on Wednesday, April 5, at 6:30 p.m. CEO Thurmond will discuss the most recent steps the county has taken toward resolving the county’s water billing crisis. This meeting is part of CEO Thurmond’s commitment to be transparent by regularly updating residents about the county’s efforts to improve customer service in water billing. The meeting will be held in the Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur, GA 30030. DECATUR, Ga. – DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold a Spring Break Mini Camp April 3-7 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The cost of camp is $10 for a day of activities for children ages 5-12. Participants must provide their own lunches and snacks. CEO Thurmond to Address Water Billing Crisis

DECATUR, Ga.— DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond will address the water billing crisis during a special called meeting of the Board of Commissioners on Thursday, Feb. 23, at 9:15 a.m.
Since taking office in January, CEO Thurmond, along with a task force of county staff, has spent countless hours analyzing data and uncovering the root causes that led to a high number of inaccurate water bills.
The CEO will discuss the findings that led to the county’s water billing crisis and will present short- and long-term recommendations to address the issues.
The Board of Commissioners meets in the Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur, GA 30030.
The meeting will be broadcast live on Comcast Cable Channel 23 for residents living in DeKalb County. It also will be streamed live on the county website’s homepage at www.dekalbcountyga.gov.

DeKalb Announces Presidents Day Residential Sanitation Collection Schedule
DECATUR, Ga. – In observance of Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 20, garbage, recyclable materials and yard trimmings collection for residential customers will be based on a revised collection schedule.
The revised schedule is as follows:
Monday, Feb. 20 – Presidents Day observed. No sanitation collection service.
Tuesday, Feb. 21 – Residential customers whose regularly scheduled collection day is Monday, Feb. 20, will be serviced on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
Wednesday, Feb. 22 – Residential customers whose regularly scheduled collection day is Tuesday,
Feb. 21, will be serviced on Wednesday, Feb. 22.
Thursday, Feb. 23 – Residential customers whose regularly scheduled collection day is Wednesday,
Feb. 22, will be serviced on Thursday, Feb. 23.
Friday, Feb. 24 – Residential customers whose regularly scheduled collection day is Thursday, Feb. 23, will be serviced on Friday, Feb. 24.
The Sanitation Division’s administrative office, Central and North Transfer Stations and Seminole Road Landfill will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20, and will reopen on Tuesday, Feb. 21, during normal operating hours.

, Irvin J. Johnson, would like to remind all DeKalb County who owned and resided in their property on January 1, 2017 that they may qualify for a basic homestead exemption. The , which provides a significant tax savings to homeowners, must be applied for in person, by mail or via the Internet as exemptions are not automatically granted. Please note, that no company to include mortgage companies may file applications on behalf of property owners. Also, by law, exemptions are not available for rental or commercial property and there is never a fee to file.
In addition to the basic homestead exemption, there are special exemptions for citizens 62 years of age and older. Eligibility is determined only by application based on age and total household income. Special exemptions are also available for citizens that are deemed totally and permanently disabled. Applicants for senior or disability exemptions must visit one of the Tax Commissioner's office locations in person so that specific circumstances and required documentation (2016 State & Federal income tax returns, proof of age and proof of disability status), are reviewed for eligibility.
Residents are reminded that application must be received by April 3, 2017 in order for the exemption to be granted on 2017 annual property taxes. Although applications are accepted year round, any
approved application received after the April 3rd deadline will be granted for the 2018 tax year.

DeKalb County CEO-elect Michael Thurmond's "New Day for DeKalb Inaugural Celebration 2017" steering committee has published a schedule of events that will honor DeKalb's federal, state and local public servants. The committee is co-chaired by Gregory and Betty Levett and Will and Virginia Reece.
The co-chairs invite DeKalb residents and others to demonstrate their support for CEO-elect Thurmond and DeKalb's public servants by attending and supporting the various events. All events are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted below.
