McCarroll Middle School

Yesterday, the 7th grade history classes had tremendous discussions surrounding the topic of September 11th. The students reflections on their class conversations were insightful and full of emotion. Mrs. Svajda said, "the conversation was very thoughtful and inquisitive among the students." We are proud of all of our students for engaging in their lesson.

Next week we will be participating in "Start With Hello" Week. Start With Hello is a national call-to-action week dedicated to making new social connections and creating a sense of belonging among youth. During this week, it is our hope that students learn to become aware of others and spread kindness in our school and community. We are looking forward to seeing everyone participate by dressing up each day.

Students were ROCKIN' and ROLLIN around campus yesterday showing off their school spirit!

Next Tuesday spirit day theme is Grill Masters! Can't wait to see the outfits!

Our PTO has outdone it again! Thank you for the wonderful staff luncheon. If you haven't already joined the Decatur McCarroll Middle School PTO you still can! Actually, there is a meeting today at 4pm in the library. We would love to see you there.

It's been a busy week at MMS!! To start off, 6th grade science was invaded by aliens for science safety. 7th grade science had fierce competitions in building periodic tables while 8th graders competed in periodic table battleship. Mrs. Clackler's students practiced syllable review in a yummy looking way while Mrs. Naumann's class was spotted practicing for their upcoming presentations and brightening the hallways. Mrs. Hughes theater arts classes were performing waterless synchronized swimming. This and so much more is happening across the campus. We love the creative ways our teachers draw in students to be engaged in their own learning.

⚠️ Dear Eagle Families

This afternoon, a false fire alarm was activated at McCarroll Middle School due to a faculty smoke detector in one of the portable buildings. Students and staff evacuated the building in accordance with district safety procedures and remained safe throughout the duration of the incident. Decatur ISD staff worked quickly to assess the situation and confirm that there was no fire at the school or any connected facilities, including the portable buildings.

At this time, the main building has been cleared by the Decatur Fire Department and students have been escorted back into the building.

🚨 🚨 🚨 Please be extra cautious when traveling on W. Thompson between the middle school and the apartments across the road. There is a crosswalk in this location for children walking to school. It may seem that a vehicle is waiting to turn into the apartments but they may be waiting for a child to cross the street. Remember the school zone is extended all the way to the library, not just in front of the school building. 🚨 🚨 🚨

8th grade students received the Chromebooks today.
7th grade distribution will be Tuesday with 6th grade following on Wednesday.
We highly suggest purchasing Chromebook insurance!

What a great first day! Students spent the day getting to know their new teachers and classmates. It was amazing watching students help each other to class and building relationships.
