This week, I had the opportunity to bring a group of students to Passport Puerto Rico. It has been a blessing to see students from different church in the mainland joining students from various churches in Puerto Rico in this first bilingual Passport Camp. They are worshipping together, playing, and doing mission together. Speaking different languages is not a barrier, but an opportunity to be intentional in getting to know each other and working together for the Kingdom. While we were in worship today, we had the visit of Rev. Laura Ayala, Coordinator of Global Mission.

CBF Staff Directory – Cooperative Baptist Fellowship 06/27/2024

Did you experience General Assembly this year? In person, via social media posts, or perhaps through Livestream worship? If you did, please know it is through the efforts of the entire staff General Assembly happens.
If you were in attendance, and someone on staff provided information, direction, or answered any questions, would you, in an act of gratitude, let them know what they did was helpful? If you participated via livestream and were grateful the option was offered, would you offer thanks?
Sharing gratitude is good and healthy. Here's a link to all CBF staff. Click then find the name or photo of who you'd like to send an email to.
And, we'll see you in St. Louis in June 2025. ~dm

Worship, prayer, commissioning, challenges, learning sessions, food and fellowship. It was an amazing time together.
Let us, as Rev. Juan Garcia, our Moderator encourages, “be a community that invites welcomes and embraces everyone God puts in our way…” dm

Ellen Sechrest, CBF Director of Mission Engagement, was in Huntsville earlier this year.
While she was in town, we enjoyed an afternoon of Coffee and Conversation with a few friends. Ellen and Rickey engaged with new people, shared a little about the ministries of CBF, and answered all the questions!
When our congregations have an opportunity to meet CBF office and field personnel in intimate settings, it helps us to be stronger and better connected! I loved introducing Ellen and Rickey to this group in our home.

When Field Personnel are in town, you make the most of it and gather! Making connections and strengthening relationships are not only important, it’s fun too! Friends from Trinity Baptist Church Madison Alabama, First Baptist Church Huntsville, and First Baptist Madison shared a meal on Saturday and on Sunday Missy met the pastor of The Baptist Church of Beaufort. If you've not met Juan, you are missing out!
Meet him in Greensboro at General Assembly!

We're excited that our own, Juan Garcia, will serve as CBF Moderator for this upcoming year.

The CBF Nominating Committee selected Rev. Juan L. García to serve as Moderator-Elect in 2023-2024. Garcia serves as pastor of the Hispanic Congregation (Primera Iglesia Bautista de Newport News) of First Baptist Church, Newport News, Va., a multicultural congregation with people from Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

A native of Puerto Rico, García has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan and a Master of Divinity degree from the John Leland Center for Theological Studies in Arlington, Va. In 2006, García planted Primera Iglesia Bautista de Newport News with 15 people, and the congregation now has more than 100 active members. Prior to his tenure as pastor, García worked for the U.S. Department of Treasury in Washington, D.C. as a financial program specialist.

García has a history of extensive community involvement in Newport News, including serving as a member of the Hispanic Advisory Committee to the City Manager and member of the Board of Directors of Southeastern Virginia Health System. He has partnered with the city of Newport News and local organizations to host free health and resources fairs for the Hispanic community.

He is a member of the CBF Governing Board and has also served on the CBF Toward Bold Faithfulness Collaborative Response Team, the CBF Theological Education Commission, and the Executive Coordinator Search Committee, and the Steering Committee of FAMILIA, CBF’s Latino network. García has also helped facilitate numerous CBF Dawnings congregational visioning retreats for pastors and lay leaders in Texas, California, North Carolina and the Dominican Republic.

The first part of May, CBF Field Personnel Elket Rodriquez and I traveled to Brownsville where he introduced me to the Rev. Carlos Navarro and we visited Iglesia Bautista West Brownsville. What a beautiful and important ministry to immigrants and asylum seekers who need an overnight place to stay before leaving on the next leg of their journey to their new homes.
Grateful for servant hearts who lend a hand to their neighbors through donations or service.

As I've scrolled through Facebook today, it's been good to see the ways Pentecost, and for many, Graduate Sunday, was recognized our CBF congregations!
I smiled when I saw this post - First Baptist Church of Lumberton NC celebrated the Birthday of the Church with cupcakes frosted in red, orange, and yellow! What fun - did anyone else celebrate with cake or cupcakes?

Field Personnel Missy Ward Angalla and her husband Francis recently spent time in Huntsville Alabama. While there they both participated in the worship services of First Baptist Church Huntsville and later the church participated in a lunch and Silent Auction to raise funds for Amani Sasa.
It was wonderful to reconnect and introduce her to new friends! ~debbie (former moderator)
