Have you listened to our Summer Sabbath Podcast Series yet? If not, you should! The link is in our bio, and you can also find it at immanuelatl.org/podcast

This summer, our church body is leaning into the discipline of sabbath-keeping. On this podcast, which features original music by Tony Aparo, Associate Priest Ginny Seibel helps us lean into rest together by contemplating a reading from the daily office each week.

You can listen as you’re driving to work or in a more contemplative posture—with closed eyes and deep breathing. You can also journal your answers to the questions. We hope this podcast offers you an opportunity to rest in God.

This time of year at Immanuel is always bittersweet: it is the time where a few new members roll onto the Vestry, our governing board, and a few existing members roll off. This year is especially significant, as it is the first year where several of our inaugural members are completing their three-year terms.

Those members are Erik Trum (our Senior Warden), Anslee deLastic (our Junior Warden), and Emily Tunggala. These three have been with us through some of the most joyous and most difficult moments in our church's history, and it is hard to imagine the Vestry without them. Their faithfulness is a testament to the Lord's faithfulness. They have served with gladness, hope, and commitment in a way we could only have hoped for.

The last member rolling off is Claire Green, another beloved Immanuel member, who is leaving the Vestry early because she is having a baby! Claire has not only served the Vestry and particularly the Rector Search Committee, but she has faithfully served Immanuel/Trinity Eastside for years.

We celebrate their faithful commitment to the Immanuel community and are filled with excitement and hope about how God will continue to bless us with their giftings. If you get a chance, please thank these Vestry members in person, or you can email them at [email protected].

As we interact with Juneteenth, it is important to remember that we live in the midst of Jesus’ resurrection—the age of the Holy Spirit—in which God's promised Kingdom has arrived. At the same time, the full manifestation of this Kingdom is not yet. The historical liberation that Juneteenth celebrates is one that is both now and achieved; yet also as we are all too aware, painfully not yet.

As Martin Luther King, Jr. prayed: "God, Grant that we will love you with all our hearts, souls, and minds, and love our neighbors as we love ourselves, even our enemy neighbors. And we ask you, God, in these days of emotional tension, when the problems of the world are gigantic in extent and chaotic in detail, to be with us in our going out and our coming in, in our rising up and in our lying down, in our moments of joy and in our moments of sorrow, until the day when there shall be no sunset and no dawn. Amen."

We echo Dr. King's prayer in that we hope this Juneteenth holiday is a day of rest, introspection, repentance and celebration of God’s redemptive liberation.

We're so grateful for everyone who had a part in making this week an unforgettable one for the kids. 'Til next year! 🐳

Baptism Sundays truly are some of our favorite Sundays of the year. It is always so incredible to bear witness to the profound joy that baptism brings not only those being baptized, but our whole congregation. To be reminded that Christ is constantly doing a real work among the hearts of our church body is such a blessing.

Major, major shoutout to for these wonderful photos. It was basically impossible to pick just 10 to post!
