“The Art of Being Human” A weekend retreat with John Rockwell, a close student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche.
Meditation practice helps us to examine our states of mind without trying to change them. This practice encourages openness to oneself and what’s around us. Our old habits and patterns become more transparent, leaving room for a more direct appreciation of situations. This transforms the way we see our life and our world.
All are welcome. Come as you are. You have everything you need to wake up in this rich world of confusion and wonder. Give yourself the “gift of time” and focus on taking care of yourself so you can be of benefit to others.

Social conditioning and ancestral trauma keep all of us from seeing our own inner wisdom clearly. The resulting habitual patterns block our liberation, personal and collective, and can lead us to cause harm to ourselves and others without even realizing we are doing it. In Buddhism, we call this confusion. How do we transform confusion into wisdom?
Our true nature is a gem buried in all that messiness. It’s the lotus that grows out of the mud, the buddha within. Through meditation, relational attunement, movement, play, dialogue, story and ritual, we can explore the shadow–our unacknowledged pain and emotional blind spots–to release habits and patterns that no longer serve us. We can uncover our wisdom and transform our personal trauma; we can heal ourselves and our collective traumas to heal the world.
Calling All Change Agents!
This retreat is for YOU…in whatever ways you see yourself as a change agent.
Join us to explore different types of emotional energy and their corresponding insights, which can manifest in each of us individually and also in our communities. According to the Mahayana teachings on the five buddha families, the very same energy can manifest in expansive or contracted ways as wisdom or confusion.
We are each made up of five elements: Fire, Water, Air, Earth and Space. Together we will work with each element to help reveal the contracted aspects of ourselves and learn how to release them into wisdom. We will engage with embodied tools, art, and play to look deeply into our own ancestral lineages to mine for the riches and reveal the recurring themes. Each of us will contribute our own insights to the collective group and help us to build a mindful and caring space.
Schedule:
Fri 7:00 - 9:00 PM
Sat 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM | 2:30 - 5:00 PM
Sun 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM | 2:30 - 5:00 PM
