MainspringCTS provides psychotherapy and clinical integration services.
We help individuals, families and businesses find their main·spring: something that plays a principal part in motivating or maintaining a movement, process, or activity.
Have you ever heard someone say, “Don’t trust your emotions”?
Emotions are important because they help us understand the world around us and our internal universe. They also help us understand what we want or need.
In healing spaces, emotions help us better understand what we need to heal. “You can’t heal what you’re unwilling to acknowledge.”
NBC News:
New CDC research shows construction workers are dying by su***de at alarming rates.
Construction workers are dying by su***de at an alarming rate.
The construction industry has one of the highest su***de rates among professions, with an estimated 6,000 construction workers dying by su***de in 2022.
Mental health issues and increasing opioid use and su***de rates are among the challenges impacting construction workers. Opioid use and su***des have risen significantly in recent years. A variety of factors inside and outside of the workplace can negatively affect mental health, including:
🔨 Seasonal work
🕛 Time away from family
🩼Workplace injuries and chronic pain
🤕Lack of paid sick leave
😰Demanding schedules
Opioids have commonly been prescribed to treat pain from work-related injuries. The construction industry has some of the highest injury rates in the United States. Opioid use can lead to substance use disorder and overdoses. Understanding the causes and risks of opioid misuse can prevent future overdoses and deaths in the construction industry.
Construction workers can take several proactive steps to support their mental health and well-being:
1. Stay Connected: Build and maintain strong relationships with coworkers, friends, and family. Social support is crucial for mental health.
2. Manage Stress: Practice stress management techniques such as deep breathing, mindfulness, or physical exercise. Find healthy outlets to decompress after work.
3. Set Boundaries: Establish clear boundaries between work and personal life. Avoid bringing work-related stress home whenever possible.
4. Seek Support: Don’t hesitate to reach out to trusted colleagues, supervisors, or mental health professionals if feeling overwhelmed or distressed.

Licensed Professional Counselors are trained to use the Wellness Model. In the Wellness Model, there is a strong emphasis on holistic care vs. seeing the client as ‘broken’ or needing a cure. The client is encouraged to take part in healthy activities that create balance and a stronger body and mind connection that can ward off “dis-ease”.
At Mainspring, we refer to this as the Practice of Kindness Towards Self, where you learn how to respond to you in a caring and holistic way.
The National Wellness Institute notes that applying a wellness approach can be useful in nearly every human endeavor as a pathway to optimal living and nurturing unmet needs. The eight dimensions of the wellness model are: emotional, environmental, financial, intellectual, occupational, physical, social and spiritual.

Men’s Mental Health Month is celebrated every June. The annual observance aims to encourage men and boys to be proactive about their health and make healthy lifestyle choices. It also recognizes that men’s mental health can be affected by a number of factors, including societal expectations, gender roles, and cultural norms. The month highlights the need for tailored approaches to address these issues, and to promote healthy coping mechanisms and supportive environments for men.
Jon believes the process of change is best understood when we decide to be Kind to ourselves.
If you’re having trouble trusting you and feeling safe within your body, take inventory of your personal narratives; stories you communicate internally about who you are, where you come from, and how you present to others.
Understanding your story informs how you feel and deal when life starts to happen. Parts of our stories are helpful, others harmful.
A fracture in your narrative will cause you to show up disjointed. In other words, the inability to use kindness, as a tool, to bring all parts of self together.
Just for a moment, imagine if kindness could speak. Kindness might say, “This let’s create a space for the parts we want to hide or do away with. Let’s create a space for all of you to be welcome.”
The kindest thing you can do for yourself, is to learn how to care for you. That includes learning to care for your mental health.

Happy Holidays from all us here at Mainspring CTS!
Remember to be kind to yourself today. Be honest and listen to your needs. Practice showing up for yourself and move through this day the way that is best for YOU.
Be well.
How are you?
This time of year almost demands that we feel joyful and happy, and it’s wonderful if that’s where you truly are, but what happens if you’re not?
Kindness says all of you is welcome. Do not try to pack those feelings away if they are indeed the ones calling for your nurturing and care. Welcome them to the table. Find out what they need and work towards that in full honesty and transparency with your self.
Have a HEALTHY holiday season.
World AIDS Day is about people - not a diagnosis.
This day is most often acknowledged as a way to inform, educate and raise awareness, and today we are focused on how we can equalize. Each of us is being urged to address the inequalities which are holding back progress in ending AIDS. This year’s theme joins a growing list of challenges that World AIDS Day has alerted people to globally.
This is a call to action and a prompt for all of us to work for the proven practical actions needed to address inequalities and help end AIDS, such as:
* Increase availability, quality and suitability of services, for HIV treatment, testing and prevention, so that everyone is well-served.
* Reform laws, policies and practices to tackle the stigma and exclusion faced by people living with HIV and by key and marginalised populations, so that everyone is shown respect and is welcomed.
You are leaders of a movement and can make real change. Visit UNAIDS for more information and take a new step to and today.
Remember your kindness practices today.
Bring it wherever this holiday does, or does not, take you. Remember the lessons you’ve learned and put them into practice as needed.
Be grateful this day for your growth and smile in knowing there’s more to come.

Today we celebrate 5 years of kindness.
Mainspring Counseling and Training Services has been serving the Metro Atlanta community since 2017, and in order to make it to this point we had to define our goals.
Number 1: Practice kindness. Always.
But what did kindness mean then? What does it mean today? We had to find our definition of kindness in order to effectively apply it to the work of this practice, and now we invite you to do the same.
Celebrate our birthday with us by visiting mainspringcts.com/shop and downloading your FREE workbook, ‘What Would Kindness Say?: Creating a Kindness Definition.’ When you do, you’ll receive a coupon code for 10% off your next purchase* with us!
