Oh snap, Nursing Home Week has been pretty fly. We finished off the week with 90's day.
The 80s called; they said, "Nursing Home Week has been gnarly."
We boogied all day, 70s style πΊ!
We brought the 50's to life to start off nursing home week! We played bingo and dressed up to match the theme. All week we will be going through the decades, so watch for more pictures.
π Look at Me Now! - Ginger White's Journey π
When Ginger ended up in the hospital after a fall resulting in surgery, there was no question in her mind when she chose Aperion Care DeKalb for rehab!
During her six-week rehabilitation journey, Ginger displayed remarkable progress β turning obstacles into victories. Initially reliant on substantial assistance for daily activities, she steadily reclaimed her independence, surpassing expected milestones. From admission to discharge, her transfer and ambulation capabilities saw a huge improvement, transitioning from needing maximal assistance to achieving full independence β a tribute to her unwavering commitment to recovery. Ginger and the staff worked on strategies to make everyday tasks more manageable. Her journey is a testament to the strength found in perseverance and highlights the invaluable role of dedicated nursing care along with physical & occupational therapy in reinstating mobility, independence, and overall well-being.
Ginger was able to safely return home alone and continues her therapy on a home-visit basis.
π Look at Me Now! - Marie's Journey π
Marieβs journey following a left hip hemiarthroplasty is a true show of resilience and triumph! A painful gait, difficulty moving, and functioning with her new hip precautions couldn't keep Marie down. She worked hard with her physical and occupational therapists along with the nursing staff to rebuild strength and mobility while discovering new techniques to make daily tasks easier.
In Marieβs own words, βThe staff here were all very nice and caring β they actually care what happens to you.β Marie described her rehab stay as a very positive and would recommend Aperion Care DeKalb to others.
Marie is home safe thanks to her hard work and the dedicated efforts of our professional, caring staff. Congratulations Marie! π

Today, Patrick Finnigan, Marine Toys for Tots Foundation County Coordinator, stopped by to pick up all the toys staff and visitors have donated over the last few weeks - including a generous $200 check from Springer Mountain Farms in memory of our late resident, Gary Mullis. β¨ π π
π€ Remembering our resident, Gary Mullis π€
Gary was born May 14, 1944 in DeKalb and lived in the area ever since. He was well known throughout the community even after his admission to Aperion Care on August 8, 2022, and always had a passion for Country & Western, Gospel music and helping others.
Gary wrote a book titled, βFrom Farm to Hall of Fame Museumβ outlining his childhood years working on the farm with his father, the one-room schoolhouse in Sycamore where he started school, his 36 years at University Plaza in DeKalb and his induction into the VIP Songwriting Hall of Fame Museum. He also shared about his experience becoming a Christian at DeKalb, Illinois Foursquare Church in 1973.
Garyβs first love of Country and Gospel music came when he attended the Boone County Fair in 2005. After that, he made trips to Nashville in 2005, 2006, 2008, and every June thereafter. He also became a member of R.O.P.E., Nashville, Tennessee International Reunion of Professional Entertainers where he did recitations of many famous Country & Western recording artists, including visits and appearances on The Grand Ole Opry Stage. In addition to writing recitations, Gary played the snare drum and was a back-up singer to several artists.
In May 2014, Gary was inducted into the VIP Songwriting Hall of Fame Museum in Lexington, Alabama, which features many of the Platinum and Gold Records he won in songwriters' contests.
On December 9, 2019, Gary was awarded a Certificate of Recognition from the City of DeKalb City Council celebrating his 50 years of service and dedication to the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation Toy Drive.
Gary left us peacefully on December 11, 2023 just after completing one last Toys for Tots mission ensuring there would be toys for children in our community this Christmas.
He will be truly missed by all who knew him. π
