Two years ago, I went to HSDC to volunteer with the dogs. Little did I know, I would be coming home with a puppy. He was just what I needed after losing Winston 🧡🐒🧡

Please remember that Service Dog handlers (or anyone else with a dog in a public space, for that matter) are under no obligation to let you interact with their dogs nor do they owe you an explanation of their reason for saying no.

Why shouldn’t you pet a service dog?

Petting a service dog is discouraged for several reasons:

1. **Working Dog**: Service dogs are trained to perform specific tasks for their handlers, and petting them can distract them from their work.

2. **Focus**: These dogs need to maintain their focus on their tasks and their handler, so interruptions can interfere with their ability to assist effectively.

3. **Handler's Safety**: If a service dog is distracted, it may not be able to protect or assist its handler, especially in critical situations.

4. **Respect**: Service dogs are working animals, not pets. It’s important to respect their role and the training they've received.

5. **Handler’s Comfort**: Some handlers may have disabilities that affect their comfort level with people approaching and touching their dog.

US 23 LANE RESTRICTIONS START SUNDAY

Starting 7/28/24 US 23 will be reduced to one lane in each direction for 14 days between SR 315 and Meeker Way for an ODOT bridge replacement project. This restriction is expected to cause significant travel delays. Additional details are as follows and on the exhibit.

• Northbound traffic will be shifted to the opposite side of the median while work occurs in the normal northbound lanes.
• Stratford Rd. at US 23: No left turns to or from Stratford Rd. (US 23 northbound right turns to Stratford Rd. still open). Full access to Stratford Rd. will be maintained using Meeker Way as a detour. Full access for all properties on Stratford Rd. south of Meeker Way will be available using this detour.
• Po***ck Rd. at US23: No left turns to or from Po***ck Rd. (US 23 northbound right turns to Po***ck Rd. still open).
• Turkey Hill at US 23: No access to the US 23 northbound right turn lane to Turkey Hill. Access to Turkey Hill will be maintained from Stratford Rd.

After this phase is completed, another 14-day phase will occur for culvert construction in the southbound lanes and will also maintain only one lane in each direction.

I am teaching the dogs to file their nails on one of these boards.

In session 2, Torre understands the assignment & is enthusiastically scratching the board. She is predominantly right-pawed, so I am starting to work with her on using the left paw by giving her the "other paw" cue she knows for shaking paws.

Moose is right at the point of getting it, sometimes scratching & sometimes just stepping on the board. He is predominantly left-pawed. Once he is consistent in scratching, we will work on using his right paw, but for now, he gets a small jackpot when he does.

Jeter says, "This is dumb, but I will bring you every shoe in the house instead" 😂😂😂 I have ordered a second board that has a treat compartment built into it, which I hope will better motivate him.

Took the boys for a walk this evening. It was humid, but only 78°, so much better than when I walked Felix earlier.

I feel very badly for not taking Torre, but I worry about her getting dehydrated. Since she is missing half her mandible, she drools & she doesn't like to drink out of the portable bowls.
