Safety Tips for a Safe Labor Day Weekend!
Labor Day weekend is almost here, and we want everyone to have a fun and safe holiday! Whether you're planning a barbecue, heading to the beach, or enjoying the outdoors, here are some important safety tips to keep in mind:
1. Grill Safely: Keep your grill at least 10 feet away from your house or any flammable materials. Never leave it unattended while in use, and keep a fire extinguisher nearby just in case.
2. Stay Hydrated: The Florida sun can be intense! Drink plenty of water, especially if you’re spending time outside. Remember to apply sunscreen regularly and take breaks in the shade.
3. Water Safety: If you’re heading to the beach or pool, always swim with a buddy and keep an eye on children at all times. Make sure to follow all posted safety signs and warnings.
4. Fireworks Caution: Leave the fireworks to the professionals. If you’re using sparklers, keep a bucket of water nearby, and never allow young children to handle them.
5. Travel Smart: If you’re hitting the road, make sure your vehicle is in good condition, and always wear your seatbelt. Avoid distractions while driving and never drive under the influence.
Let's work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend for everyone! If you have an emergency, remember we are just a call away.
Stay safe, Delray Beach! 🚒❤️
🌟 Community Care in Action! 🌟
Earlier this month, Palm Beach County Fire dispatch received a call from a Delray Beach senior citizen in need of medical assistance, in which Delray Beach Fire Rescue responded. During the call, dispatchers discovered that the woman and her brother were facing challenges with basic necessities. Moved by their situation, dispatchers sprang into action and put together a care package for them.
The following week, our incredible Delray Beach Fire Rescue Community Risk Reduction team personally delivered groceries and toiletries to their apartment. The woman was deeply touched and wanted to extend her heartfelt thanks to everyone involved.
During the visit, our team also conducted a home safety survey to ensure their living environment is as safe as possible.
This heartwarming story reminds us of the power of community and compassion. Thank you to Palm Beach County dispatchers and DBFR Community Risk Reduction team for making a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors!
🚒On this first day of the 2024/2025 school year, Delray Beach Fire Rescue firefighters were out in the community greeting students, teachers, and faculty with warm smiles as they returned to school. We wish everyone a safe, fun, and successful year ahead! 📚✏️ Remember, safety comes first in everything you do. Have a great school year! 🍎🔥

First responders Honored for Life Saving Rescue
Earlier this month, Delray Beach Fire Rescue Captain David Garcia, Driver Engineer James Jacobs, and Driver Engineer Joshua Simmonds were recognized for their quick thinking and compassion during a critical moment. With the assistance of Delray Beach police officers, they successfully rescued a baby trapped inside a locked vehicle. The award ceremony was hosted by the Daughter of Zion Church.
On behalf of the Training Division and Delray Beach Fire Rescue, we would like to extend our gratitude to Seaside Builders for allowing us to conduct training exercises at their property, located at 130 SE 1st Ave. Your generous support and cooperation have provided our firefighters with invaluable hands-on experience in a real-world environment, significantly enhancing our preparedness and response capabilities to the citizens of Delray Beach. Training in an actual structure, rather than a simulated environment, offers our department unique and practical learning opportunities. It allows us to better understand layouts, construction material and potential hazards, which are crucial for effective firefighting. Thank you once again for your generosity and partnership. We look forward to the possibility of future collaborations that will continue to benefit the safety and well-being of our community.
We had an amazing time hosting the Marjorie S. Fisher Palm Beach County Boys and Girls Club at our fire station! The teenagers were full of curiosity and asked our firefighters some fantastic questions. It was a wonderful opportunity to share what we do and to inspire the next generation. Thank you for visiting us and making it a memorable day!

Excellence in Training
Twelve Delray Beach firefighters recently completed the 160-hour Hazardous Material Technician course. Completing this course enables them to sit for the Florida State Certification Exam and marks the first step toward joining our special operations team here in the City of Delray Beach, which is part of Region 7 Hazmat State Team.
A brief overview of the course: it spans 160 hours during which students simulate hazmat technician roles in various full-scale field scenarios. This includes tasks such as entering hazardous material scenes, determining incident types through observation, monitoring, and research. They are trained in full-size incident command protocols, team member decontamination, and in large-scale incidents, mass casualty decontamination. Congrats to these dedicated firefighters on their achievement.
Today, we bid a heartfelt farewell to three of our esteemed colleagues at Delray Beach Fire Rescue. We held a retirement ceremony honoring Captain Mike Camera, Captain Mark Siciliano, and Firefighter Scott Bitzer. Each of these exceptional men is retiring with over 30 years of dedicated service. Their hard work, reliability, and invaluable contributions have been a tremendous asset to our department. We wish them all the best in their well-deserved retirement!

🚒👩🚒 Delray Beach Fire Rescue Assists Local Resident in Need 👨🦽🏡
Our team recently had the pleasure of visiting JM, a resident of Rainberry Bay. JM, who has a history of MS and uses a wheelchair, had previously received our assistance in April and May. We were happy to check in on him as part of our ongoing commitment to community safety and support.
Our Community Risk Reduction Fire and Life Safety Division, along with our Special Operations engine, visited JM to see if there were any additional services we could provide. During our visit, JM mentioned that he had just received his new wheelchair ramp but was expecting a delay in its installation.
Without hesitation, Firefighter Brandon from our Special Operations team stepped up to the challenge. Using tools from our Special Operations engine, Brandon got to work and installed the ramp, ensuring that JM now has easy access to enter and leave his home. JM was thrilled and grateful for our assistance, and we’re honored to have been able to help. It’s moments like these that remind us why we do what we do.
Thank you sir for allowing us to lend a hand. We’re proud to serve our community and make a positive impact in any way we can. 💙🚒
