I love how some of these artists took their paintings into the collage studio to add the inhabitants of their towns and castles clipped from magazines.

September 17 th (ish) is International Dot Day which celebrates the creative courage of children worldwide.
In the L.A. Nelson art room students were encouraged to experiment with tools, techniques, processes and materials to stretch and explore in order to “make a mark and see where it takes you.”
The dot inspired works below will be on display in the school board meeting room at Central Office until November 8.

The first meeting of the 4th and 5th grade fiber arts club was a lot of fun. The student were a bit confused when I told them they could use their toes to hold the loop of their friendship bracelets as they wove but soon got into the rhythm of weaving and discussed how calming it was to create the bracelet. They took the project home and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished products.😊

We are happy campers at L A Nelson this year! We are celebrating this year’s school wide theme by learning about artists Charlie Russell and Emily Carr who both camped as a way to more fully observe the nature they represented in their paintings.
We are already drawing, painting, collaging, sculpting and constructing in the art room!

Welcome to the new school year!
We are already making art and learning in the art room.
Second through Fifth grade were or will be issued the “Paper Bag Challenge” during Monday classes.
Students chose teams of 2 or 3 and the team was given a bag of random items and a name of an art supply and process (painting, drawing, or collage) they must use to make an artwork that exemplified something all team members had in common. They knocked it out of the park and had a great time getting to know new classmates and reacquainting themselves to the art room!
