Join IDC for its Spring 22 Interest Meeting/Audition
Wednesday, January 26, 2022, 4:30 PM-5:45 PM

This semester the IDC student choreographer is MFA in Dance Candidate Riley McCallum, Riley has a broad background of movement experiences, ranging from martial arts, color guard to concert and vogue dance. In the final year of earning his BFA in performing arts from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, he was the artist in residence at the Acadiana Center for the Arts. It was at this time that he began exploring the integration of dance and extended reality technology, and he is using his time at TWU to further his research.

Riley McCallum’s work this semester will be about introductions. Introducing the cast to vogue dance and ballroom culture, and introducing the dancers to the audience. Community starts with your entrance and introduction, formal or otherwise.

Elisa De La Rosa’s work this semester will be a dive into Mexican, Mexican American, & Tex-Mex Culture. We will be fusing traditional ballet Folklorico skirt work with contemporary dance.

All are welcome no previous experience is needed. All students interested should be enrolled in performance.

IDC rehearsals are held Monday & Wednesday 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM in DGL 210, and 208.

Elisa De La Rosa developed, "mundo chaótico (chaotic world)", a group work featuring 15 Texas Woman’s University International Dance Company dancers who incorporate roses in their movement while performing in individual alternative spaces and together through Zoom. The dancers touched on their emotional journey related to the current pandemic in a chaotic world to the tunes of a traditional Mexican song “cucurrucucu paloma”.

Latin Pop with (Rebeca Gamborino )

Latin Pop is a fun, energetic fusion dance form for everyone! It is sure to get you pumped and sweaty. The class will combine Latin social dances (salsa, cumbia, samba, etc.) with basic jazz dance steps to create a hybrid form similar to what you would find in music videos. We'll start by break down basic Latin social dance steps and rhythms, think of it as a sampler, and then combine them to create a dance. (No experience necessary, and anything can be modified in this class to fit the need of the student)

She has 25 years of dance training and has worked and choreographed for award-winning companies and studios, including the UT dance team. Recently, her dance films have been screened at the 2019 ATX Dance Summer Film Festival, 2021 Red Rock Screen Dance Film Festival and Makers in Motion MFA Film Festival.
