Hi and happy April, beautiful friends! All is well around here! The annual fundraising gala for Refuge for Women is this coming Thursday and I’ve been swamped with planning at work, but it’s all been good things - and I’m excited for us to execute this event with excellence!

Happy 50 Years to Span and Meals on Wheels of Denton County! Fifty years of serving home-bound seniors and providing meals and transportation! They asked me to provide a birthday cake and cupcakes for the celebration and it was my pleasure to join the party! And thank you to my trusty right hand cake lady, Tonya Berry, who helped me set up and was my date for the evening 🥰

I’ve taken a quiet stroll down memory lane today and wanted to share 💕 Eight years ago today, on Leap Day 2016, I was writing my farewell blog post on the food blog I’d created and poured my heart into for the past three years. I shared my final recipe: Lemon Blueberry cupcakes - and wrote a farewell message that announced the launch of Queen Esther’s Cupcakes 🥹

It was both bittersweet and very exciting to leave one foodie adventure for another, so making these Lemon Blueberry Cupcakes evoked a particularly poignant sense of nostalgia this week. I am eternally proud of 2016 Esther for taking the plunge! And here’s to the Lemon Blueberry cupcake for standing the test of time as a crowd favorite (the second photo shows them in their original form! They’ve come a long way ☺️)

The first wedding of 2024 was a beauty! Huge congratulations to Kenzi and Aaron on their wedding day - and a huge THANK YOU to my beautiful brother Joe for being the best cake assistant I could ask for! I definitely couldn’t have lifted this cake without you 😆

On today’s episode of “Is It Cake?”, we recognize National Pancake Day! And I have to share this pancake cake I made because I’m so proud of HOW MUCH IT LOOKS LIKE A STACK OF PANCAKES 🥞 And also the darling baby girl who celebrated her first birthday with her pancake smash cake 🥰 Anyway - get some pancakes today! This is my first big event of 2024 and it felt good to get back in the “saddle,” as it were. I felt a little rusty and out of practice, but you know we always rise to the occasion and crush it when it’s game time! 💪🏾 Even better: it’s a surprise birthday party for the sweetest lady celebrating her 60th birthday! So we had to make it beautiful 🥰🥰

This cake was for a Winter Wonderland-themed Sweet 16 party 🥰🥰🥰 I tried to channel every icy, wintry moment possible and capture the sparkling snow that comes with crisp winter days 💕 How did I do?

A new month means new beginnings! Tomorrow, I begin a new job working with Refuge for Women as their Community Engagement Coordinator! Refuge for Women provides residential aftercare to sexually exploited and trafficked women (in addition to lots of other meaningful work), and I’m so excited to join the team!

Though my attention will shift toward my new responsibility and doing a great job in that role, don’t worry - I’ll still be baking! Thank you for your ongoing support as I tackle this new adventure 💕

You all make it easy to be grateful. Thank you for your kindness and support over the years, and for continuing to include Queen Esther’s Cupcakes in your celebrations and special moments. I wish you a warm, wonderful day with the people you love! 💕
