I have some exciting news to share! I’ve teamed up with the folks at 5280 Lutherie Workshops and to offer two amp-building workshops this fall. The first workshop will focus on the classic late ‘50s American 5E3 Tweed circuit and the second workshop will tackle the early ‘60s British Plexi amp. Both workshops will take place over the course of a weekend, starting Friday and ending Sunday, and will be held at the 5280 Lutherie shop in Westminster, CO. I’ll teach you a bit of theory, amp safety, soldering, and guide you through building, hand-wiring, and testing the amp. At the end of the class, you’ll walk away with a classic sounding tube amp that was hand-built by you! Only 6 spots are available for each workshop so if you’re interested, jump on it quick!

Nice ‘72 Twin Reverb from a little while back! It was almost 100% original and the tubes were remarkably still good. Weber ceramics sound so good in these amps! Re-cap, service, safety, etc! Love working on these time capsules. !

And this, ladies and germs, is why I ALWAYS check the fuses. These are both 20A fuses in a Marshall JMP. Both the mains and HT spots had them. If a tube or transformer in the amp were to fail, this thing would literally have turned into toast and maybe turned some other important things into toast as well (people, pets, belongings, etc). DO NOT DO THIS!!!!! NEVER INSTALL A THAT IS FUSE HIGHER THAN THE STATED RATING.

Another great tour all wrapped up with a bow. Ready to head home and sleep for a week, but first and I have a house to buy! Life comes at you fast. Thanks to for bringing the heat on drums and getting those asses moving, for slapping da bass and keeping those faces smiley, for keeping those faces melty and slaying guitarmonies with me, for keeping us sounding disgustingly beautiful and for keeping us rolling on and looking good! And of course, my brother . We’ve come a long way and worked so hard to get here. The journey continues. Time to sleep in my own bed for a while!!!!

Story time! Back in ‘06, I repaired my dad’s early 60’s Gibson GA-8T Gibsonette Tremolo (Discoverer). It was my first attempt at repairing a tube amp and it was a success! It had been sitting in my parents garage for years after a local tech told a young Swanny that it was beyond repair. I refused to believe that and knew eventually I would revive the old girl. Ends up it just needed a recap and some tubes. Pretty standard stuff for me nowadays. It was a sweet sweet sounding amp and I used it live around DFW for a while as well as in the studio with Johnny Lloyd Rollins. Back then you couldn’t even give these things away and, of course, now they fetch quite a bit, depending on the condition. Anyways, fast forward to late ‘07 when my car was stolen with this amp in the trunk. Haven’t seen it since.

I finally found the only pics I have of this amp. Taken with a friend’s digital camera, I had the foresight to document some of my work. 16 years later, I cringe at the work I did but it is what it is.

Thought I’d put these pics up of my long lost amp: GA-8T, serial number 102360. If anyone happens to stumble across my old flame, I’d love to be reunited!

Last time the machine was used in 2019 all channels and inputs were working. Take up reel keeps spinning and won’t stop so it seems like an issue with the motor/motor driver transistor. Needs a proper look over from a repair tech.

Lots o big fellas coming through recently!!

Little Film-o-Sound conversion for a customer. Replaced filter caps, removed unnecessary circuitry, added adjustable negative feedback and tweaked the input section to play nice with electric guitar. This thing is an overdrive monster. Very nice indeed.

Just found out an old friend passed. Jim was such a sweet sweet soul. Didn’t have a mean bone in his body. We had so many good times together but we hadn’t seen each other in a while. He was always so supportive of all of our musical endeavors. He was at every show he could make it to. He’d come visit us in Brooklyn and sleep on our couch. It was always a helluva time when he came to hang out. Jim was one of the good ones. Gone too soon. Rest in peace, buddy. Crack a beer and spin a record for Jim.

Super pleased to have this in my collection. Procured in Chicago and safely transported back to Denver. RIP Pharoah Sanders.

100% Would be called SwannyFest, tho.
