Capitol Hill Books
Denver's largest searchable database of used books Capitol Hill Books has been open for more than 36 years at Colfax and Grant.
We are a general bookstore with a wide variety of subjects: Everything from Art to Zen. General and genre fiction, Colorado & the west, foreign language (especially French) and religious books are well-stocked but all subjects are kept. Unfortunately, we do not buy books, and are no longer able to accept new clients for trade credit. Check out our web site for more information: http://www.capitolhillbooks.com
Need a good read on this gloomy Friday? Come on in and check out our expertly curated section of staff recommendations! We make sure to keep a consistently worthwhile collection on hand for those looking for their next favorite "new-to-you" title.
Thank you to everyone who helped us by donating to our GoFundMe at https://gofund.me/c7fdfd4a We are so close to our goal, and we have already been able to start rebuilding our store

Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us through this difficult time. It definitely made Holly’s Thanksgiving more joyful. We hope to be able to repair the store and stay in business.
Don’t know which books to get your loved ones for the holidays? We’ve got you covered😁 We sell gift certificates in any amount that are valid forever.
Happy Thanksgiving! This year, we want to express gratitude for our amazing community. The support you've shown us over this last week, not to mention the last year, has been overwhelming! We've been here 41 years, and we couldn't do it without you.
Thank you. We're closed today to count our blessings (and eat some pie). See you tomorrow!
We’ve got the store looking better after the terrible crash Wednesday night, and we are ready for business. Come on down and check us out😁
Relieved to report that Godzilla survived, and will be protected at all costs!
Thank you all for the support. What's ultimately important in these situations is that no one was hurt - not even Godzilla. The driver is alright, too.
We'll be open Saturday at 10 AM - please come and see us! And excuse the plywood until we get something more permanent up in its place.
Holly Brooks, the owner of Capitol Hill Books, is so strong. Even after a truck drove through our storefront and destroyed half the store on her 71st birthday yesterday, here she is working hard to get the store open again. Please support us by coming down this weekend 😊
Here is an update for the store. We are already starting to look better😊 We hope to be open this Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 5pm, so come support our little injured store. We’d love to see all your smiling faces after such a scary week.
Needless to say, we will not be open today... 💔
It may take several days for clean up and reconstruction before we can open up again, after a truck drove through our storefront last night. We will keep you updated.
Alas, we have decided to allow ourselves to be lazy this year for Thanksgiving. As a treat.
We will be closed for the holiday this year, so be sure to drop by ahead of time to make sure you're covered with a book to hide behind for those awkward family dinners! Our current hours are 10 am to 5 pm. Looking forward to seeing you!
We're back open! Come visit us from 10 AM to 5 PM. Holly is looking forward to seeing you!
Feeling lucky? Want to support your local bookstore, but not sure what you want? Try out a mystery bundle! Select a tier, preferred genre, and we'll hand select a grab bag to ship out to you.

We are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support by the community. Thank you. ❤
Thanks to Westword Readers, the Story Continues for Capitol Hill Books The 39-year-old bookshop was on the brink of closing down. Then Westword readers showed up.
We're still chugging along, accepting orders online and via phone from 10AM to 2PM. If you want to help support us, but not sure of what you want - consider a gift certificate or mystery box.
Thank you for all the love.

To our loyal customers,
Capitol Hill Books has been proud to serve you the best in used & rare books for 39 years, and we hope to continue serving you for many years to come.
For now, however, we must put the safety and welfare of our employees and customers first. We feel it is of the utmost importance to protect our community by following the social distancing guidelines presented by the CDC, and have decided to temporarily close our doors, effective at 6 PM, March 17th. We’ll be reassessing the situation next week, and will keep you notified if anything changes.
Not to worry! For those still in need of a good book, while supporting local business, we will continue to operate our normal hours (10 AM to 6 PM) via telephone and website.
Our entire inventory is searchable at capitolhillbooks.com
We’re happy to continue taking orders there, or by phone.
During this time, we are offering free shipping via USPS on orders over $10. If you’d prefer your books more immediately, we’re happy to offer curbside pickup. Just park at the loading zone on Grant, ring our number to let us know you’re here, and we’ll run your order out to you!
(Customers with trade credit may still use their credit. However, if you choose to ship with trade credit, shipping charges must still apply. We hope you understand.)
Cash will not be held on hand, but we can accept credit card payments over the phone. Trades and donations will not be accepted at this time. Our phones will be open for questions or orders during these hours as well.
Thank you for understanding and continuing to support your local bookstore. Did we mention we’ve been open 39 years? Let’s make it 39 more!
