This is not a look that you’ll see very often, and aside from this weekend, maybe never. Not sure if this roadster has ever seen a starting line on this side of the country...but here we are!

First day of time runs in the books here at Heartland Motorsports Park . Pulled the roadster out of this trailer this morning and the brake pedal fell to the floor due to a faulty master cylinder. Didn’t take long for about 6 people to scramble and get the right replacement in our hands ✊🏻 Other than that, and the oppressive heat and high humidity, it’s slow and steady! Ready for E1 on the morning!

That’s a wrap on the Texas Two Step. Got down to 4 tonight in the $20k, took .005 and needed to take .003 or less. Lots of laps and lots of fun...not a lot to show for it. We will slap some throttle stops on the cars and get back after it next weekend at the Bandimere divisional.

Edit - we run Maxspeeds so the throttle stop is already on it. We’ll just clean em up and roll em out.

The old purple car got us down to 8 cars last night...well, this morning technically- where I needed 1 thou more brake pedal to make it happen. To describe the feeling when the winlight didn’t come on.... gutted. $50k on the line today at Texas Motorplex..

Grabbed this shot of my father-in-law last weekend. On Friday he completed his last licensing pass in the dragster, on Saturday he competed in his first super pro race, on Sunday we celebrated. That’s a badass weekend right there 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻

It felt great to get back out to the racetrack with our extended race family yesterday! Results left something to be desired but it will give us something to work towards!

What's the closest you've ever been to making a perfect lap?

I stumbled across this heart breaker in my memories from a few years back... We sure traveled a long way from home for that outcome!

I always say “lookin’ pretty and not burning the car to the ground are two different things” but at least if I burn down this car it will have looked good to start with 😆

Using all of this downtime to learn a couple new computer programs.... It’s cool when you can turn a photo that you’ve taken into something like this. Photography nerds can keep scrolling because it’s amateur hour over here, but maybe my racing friends can appreciate it!

What are you all doing to make good use of the time?

Dale Moore at Phantom Racing Graphics got the new dragster scoop done, and she’s a beaut! In a world of vinyl, there’s still a place for paint. When it comes to airbrush and hand-lettering, Dale is a pure artist. Craig Moore at Precision Specialties came in to lay the clear!

Just a couple more weeks until we can show off these new numbers in the desert sun in Phoenix!

More pieces of the puzzle is back in the dragster and we are another step closer. A fresh Hughes transmission and a Goethe Enterprises CV driveshaft on board to transfer power to the wheels. We are chomping at the bit to get on the go and make 2020 a special one!

Something in the car felt a little “funny” at our last race in Tucson. Not sure if it was a parts issue or a driver paranoia issue, but either way a new set of gears isn’t going to hurt!

The Percival family and the guys at Front Range Driveline got us back together and set in the right direction! They are our go-to, and they always deliver!

We are one step closer to the start of our 2020 season!

So this is a little more “Hallmark” than I usually like to get, but I think the meaning behind it is more important than what you see at face value. For that, I thought it would be cool to share.

As the “final project” to one of our internal programs at This Is Bracket Racing Elite, we were challenged to make a poster to hang in the trailer or bathroom mirror or wherever we would see it every day. The poster is suppose to highlight the catchphrases that we would like to focus on that will help keep us centered on our 2020 goals.

There’s a lot of meaning behind the phrases I’ve chosen. They are more like starters to the conversation, as opposed to the whole idea.

Since most of us are getting close to hitting the track and beginning our 2020 pursuits, what are some of your catchphrases that keep you centered, focused, or motivated??

Last night we celebrated with our fellow champions at the Division 5 banquet in Kansas City. I’ll be the first to admit that we love chasing big checks just as much as anyone else, but until you’ve climbed the mountain and held one of these big shiny Wallys it’s hard to describe the feeling of gratification that one of these will give you. It’s hard to even comprehend the footsteps that you’re following in when you receive this type of award. To add a little cherry on top, we were presented with the Super Class Driver of the Year award! Speaking for my whole family, we are beyond grateful for this experience and we can’t wait to spend our 2020 season displaying the big 51 on the roadster!

Been pondering the concept of a “mentor” a lot lately. So my question is: Who is one racer that had a profound impact on your racing career?

Someone that you looked up to...someone that set the example for the type of racer that you want to be...

What kind of traits does that person have that you admire most?

It’s been a little bit, but just because we are quiet doesn’t mean we aren’t working... 2020 started about 4 months ago and the wheels are turning for the upcoming racing season!

For our friends following along, you probably already know how it all went down, but here’s some previously untold details and how it all went down through my eyes!

The latest out of the Whitfield Racing wiring sector. A full re-wire and all new components can go a long way in adding value to your race car! This job integrated a new K&R Relay board and switch panel with an MSD Grid system. Each of these parts combined will provide for improved performance and a fresh loom of wire makes traceability a breeze. The elimination of splices and excess connectors is a clear improvement in safety as well!

Yesterday we made our final appearance for 2019 at the SFG Big Fun event in Tucson. For the Friday $50k we made it down to the split at 7 cars where we turned it -.002 red. For the Saturday race, we just flat got bullied around. Nonetheless, it was big money and big fun!

As we reflect on the season that the Whitfield Racing family has had, we can’t help but feel blessed. We make extraordinary investments into our racing in many forms, but we all know that in drag racing it takes a little bit of light to shine down on you to have a good day. We had few good days this year.

It’s all wrapped up!! This little buggy will be sporting the big 51 on the hood scoop next year!! The stress, the labor, the time and resources that we poured into this has paid off. The little cherry on top was a runner up finish in super comp in what has to be one of the most stout fields in the country, and the dragster will sport a 52 next season! 👊🏻👊🏻
