If you’re a Massage Member at The Wellness Center then you are already practiced in taking regular time for yourself. According to Northwestern Medicine , routines can have a very positive impact on our health! When we create a routine, we’re essentially carving out time for (and creating habits for) the things we find important enough to do regularly... sound familiar? 😉

Stretching is an often overlooked, yet essential component of training, especially in new and amateur athletes. They tend to be focused on the “no pain, no gain” aspect and want to push their bodies to the limit. While this is part of athletic training, sports recovery is just as important. You should spend almost as much time stretching and lengthening your muscles as you do strengthening them.
-
Learn more about the importance of stretching and Sports Massage for athletic training and sports recovery programs in our latest blog: https://www.wellnessdenver.com/2024/05/21/denver-sports-recovery-what-is-a-sports-massage/

"Sports massage is really for anyone who is active."
-
Often when we think of Sports Massage, we think of a professional athlete. While Sports Massage is an important part of any athletic training and sports recovery plan, it also offers benefits to those who are being active in more casual ways. Think of Summer gardening, walking your dog, lifting up children, carrying heavy grocery bags - you too can benefit from Sports Massage!

Learn all about it here:
Sports Massage – Not just for Athletes! - The Wellness Center By: Penni Louise & Layhoon Kasa The term “sports massage” often conjures images of professional athletes and that one friend you have who climbs 14’ers on a regular basis. However, according to massage therapist Layhoon Kasa, sports massage is really for anyone who is active. Furthermore, unde...
“Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate.” This is always what we tell clients after they receive bodywork. During the Summer, it can be even more difficult to stay hydrated. Here are some delicious, healthy, and fun ways to drink (and eat!) more water this Summer:
🩵 Keep a water bottle with you at all times.
🍋 Drink lemon water every morning.
🍉 Add watermelon, water and ice to a blender for a refreshing drink.
🥒 Fill a glass pitcher of infused water by adding fruits and vegetables and keep it cool in the refrigerator. Cucumber and strawberries make for a delicious subtle flavor.
💦 Commit to drinking water in between meals.
🍓 Add more raw, whole foods to your diet. Fruits and vegetables include a high amount of water per serving.
🎯 Make a game out of drinking water and track how much you drink every day. Download a water tracking app for your smartphone to make keeping track super easy.

Sports Massage should play an important role in all athletic training and sports recovery routines.
-
Some people think of massage as a very passive and pampering type of activity. Sports Massage is far from this stereotype.
-
During a Sports Massage, the client is actively participating in the session. They are asked to engage specific muscle groups to activate their bodies natural reflexes and responses. This helps to achieve a deeper therapeutic stretch. Clients are also asked to engage in movement and resistance to enhance the effectiveness of traditional massage strokes and achieve an optimal result.

Denver athletes know that when you train, you are putting stress on your muscles. This is how you build strength, stamina, and endurance for your sport. This process of building up and breaking down muscles causes them to become tight and short, which restricts circulation and creates muscular imbalances. All of these conditions are a normal byproduct of athletic training but all need to be nurtured with stretching and Sports Massage in order to enhance athletic performance and prevent injury.

Happy Birthday to our Monthly Massage Members born in June!
-
As a birthday gift to you, we've made a donation to local organization Q***r Asterisk
-
We are especially excited to talk about Q***r Asterisk during the month of June because it's Pride Month! 🎉✨🌈
-
At the time of its founding, Q***r Asterisk was the only mental health organization in Colorado where the structure and leadership was informed by q***r and trans lived experience. Their vision was to create a different kind of mental health organization; rooted in social justice advocacy, devoted to compassionate counseling and education, and run by q***r and transgender friendly professionals.
-
Ten years later, Q***r Asterisk has been able to create a centralized hub – a robust clinic with lots of LGBTQ counselors available who are also holding connections to other q***r and trans professionals in the community and can offer referrals.
-
We have personally benefited from the consulting and training services that Q***r Asterisk offers and we are so grateful to be in community with them. Are you spending more time outside these days? Don't forget your Summer Sports Massage!
-
Many Denverites are avid outdoor people, athletes, weekend warriors and gym/fitness regime followers who know that a Sports massage is an integral part of an active and athletic routine. However, there are many others who do strenuous activities that can wear and tear on their bodies such as mothers with small children, gardeners, builders and laborers. Sports massage helps prevent injuries, soreness, muscle spasms and relieves pain. The physiological and psychological benefits of massage make it an ideal complement for active people.

In our most recent blog, we've been looking at ways in which Acupuncture can support cancer survivors. Many people are struggling with long-term side-effects and consequences of cancer and its treatment but only an estimated 1-2% of these people receive rehabilitative care after their treatment is over.
-
Acupuncture can help with these common complaints and more:
· chronic pain
· hot flushes and night sweats
· fatigue
· sleep disorders
· anxiety
· depression
-
Read our latest blog here https://www.wellnessdenver.com/2024/06/04/acupuncture-for-cancer-survivorship/
Thanks to earlier diagnosis and improved treatment, more and more people are surviving for longer after a cancer diagnosis. In fact, cancer is now regarded as a chronic disease, rather than terminal.
-
While many are surviving for longer, this also means that many are experiencing long-term side-effects and consequences of cancer and its treatments. Acupuncture can help!
-
Acupuncturist, Dr. Tsai has a background in cancer which offers her a unique understanding of the broader context of cancer survivorship. This, in turn, enables a more profound approach to treatment. Her focus is to help support the immune system while it’s enduring such challenging assaults from cancer cells and chemotherapy/radiation.

Welcome back Dr. Tsai!
-
For 14 years, The Wellness Center has been fortunate to host Dr. Shwu-Yar Tsai, PH.D, L.Ac. in her practice of the healing modality of Acupuncture.
-
As many of you know, she splits her time between Taiwan and Denver and typically visits us for 4-5 months each year. We are thrilled to share that she is back!
-
Now through November, 2024 she will be offering acupuncture on Wednesdays, Fridays, and every other Sunday.
-
Dr. Tsai’s practice combines her background in cancer, behavior genetic research and training in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Dr. Tsai’s practice of the ancient principles of TCM evolves into a philosophy that recognizes and honors the Art of Life within. This is expressed as her devotion to the healing of each individual.
