There’s no better way to start a Friday than with a Spirit Day and a Lower School Assembly featuring… The Teacher Olympics and special guest, the Graland Eagle!!! 💚✨🦅🥇🥈🥉🔥 Have a great long weekend, Eagles!

In music class with Ms. Jensen, second graders learned a repetition song that would be sung by children around their age in Ghana called “Kye Kye Kule” (Che Che Kule). Students first sang the song with motions and then transferred it to tubanos (drums) and an assortment of African hand percussion instruments. They then worked on playing the rhythms accurately while switching between instruments that required different techniques to play the correct beats (the focus was real!)🪘🎶

Today was the very first Tinker Time for Graland’s Kindergartners! Students got to read “How to Catch a Class Pet” with Mrs. Leddy and used the Innovation Skill “Empathy” to design something in the Gates Invention & Innovation Lab to help a class pet! 🐹

This summer, Graland was excited and honored to join the Horizons National Program as an affiliate of Horizons Colorado. Throughout the six-week program, 25 students made new friends, engaged in hands-on academic lessons, and enthusiastically participated in all the enrichment activities, such as field trips and swimming lessons!

Special shoutout to Horizons Colorado at Graland executive director Christi James, program manager Elise de Geus, program teachers and interns, the Jewish Community Center’s Camp Shai, and all other partners who made this summer possible. The future of Horizons Colorado at Graland is very bright! ☀️

Thank you to everyone who attended the first annual Graland Pride & Dog Parade after school on Wednesday! It was so wonderful to see our community come together in such a supportive & prideful way! In addition, thank you to the LGBTQIA+ Parent Affinity Group, the Middle School Rainbow Chameleon Club, and Lower School Rainbow Club for organizing this paw-some event!

Congratulations to all recipients of academic and kindness/compassion awards, and a special shoutout to the eighth graders who received the “Big Three” Awards this morning: The Timothy Johnson Service & Leadership Award, The John Comfort Head of School Award, and the Georgia Nelson Award. Your hard work, dedication, and compassion have made our school community a better place. Way to go, Graland Middle School! 🦅💚🎓

The Art & Literary Magazine Club is pleased to share its new publication, “The Birch,” with the Graland community.

This historical publication, revived by Middle School students under the guidance of educators Sarah Baldwin, Cole Hamilton, and Kimm Lucas, features creative writing, art, and even music by faculty, staff, and students.

🤠🐎 Yee-haw! Our kindergarten cowpokes lassoed our hearts with their spectacular Rodeo performance! From introductions with their trusty stick horses to dances, songs, and knee-slappin’ jokes, these lil’ buckaroos showcased their talents and hard work in front of friends, family, and the whole school. 🎤🎶
