The CLC is continuing to celebrate 10 years this month!

Founded in 2014, the (CLC) emerged during a transformative era of social justice and grassroots movements in the United States. Born from the recognition of the vital need to center the experiences of community members in philanthropy, community development, and social justice, the CLC quickly rose to prominence as one of the fastest-growing language cooperative players in the nation.

The inception of the CLC traces back to the vision of two sisters, Indira Guzman and Rosa Guzman-Snyder. Growing up bilingual, they intimately understood the importance of language in connecting communities. Drawing from their own experiences of interpreting for their family and community during their youth, they recognized the power of their skills and decided to transform them into a means of generating wealth.

What began as a humble interpretation and translation cooperative soon blossomed into a powerful language justice movement sweeping across Colorado and beyond. Since its inception, the CLC has remained steadfast in its commitment to radical inclusion, sharing power, and dismantling oppressive systems that disproportionately impact linguistically diverse communities.

For the past decade, the CLC has been at the forefront of championing diversity—ensuring that every voice is not only heard but valued and respected. Through collaborative efforts and dedication, we've built bridges, broken barriers, and forged a path toward a more inclusive, equitable future for all.
Here's to the past, present, and future of the CLC, where together, we continue to write the story of community power, one language at a time.

We Need Language Justice 06/28/2023

In Denver, however, I woke up to limits of interpretation-by-request — and to the power of language justice. As a practice, it includes providing interpretation and translation services, but it is also much more than that.

We Need Language Justice This week's newsletter comes to us from Anjali Prasertong, a writer and public health dietitian focused on food systems, racial equity, and nutrition. Prasertong led an innovative city-funded corner store program in New Orleans that increased fresh food access in low-income neighborhoods, and worke...

What's the language of your heart?
At the CLC, we promote the full expression of ourselves using the language that best conveys our thoughts, feelings, and frustrations. It's not just what we say but how we say it that needs to be celebrated!
Does your organization promote language justice? Do you use the language of your heart?
