This sweet gal definitely filled her parent's hearts beyond capacity. One of my favorite things I hear from parents during newborn sessions is how they are so surprised that something so small can be so much joy in their lives.

Let's take a moment to talk about lighting ✨

As your photographer, part of my job is to know when the best lighting will be for your session throughout the year. Now that we are in summer, and daylight last about 5,280 hours, when you schedule your outdoor session for golden hour, that starting time is usually 7:00 PM. Which is often time very close to kids bed times (or yours - it's okay to go to bed early!), and that can often stress families about making sure the kiddos are happy for photos. So here are a few tips to helping your family session run smoothly for a summer photo session:

- Let the kids nap or have rest time a few hours before the session. If that means putting your kid down for a nap later than usual, that is okay! 😴
- Feed you and your kids BEFORE the session. No one wants to take photos when they are hangry! And bring SNACKS! Goodness we know how often your kids are asking for snacks, so bring a few mess free snacks like marshmallows, veggie straws, or things that are not cheesy (think about the neon orange fingers in your photos) 🍟
- Bribery. I am not above bribery - especially for good photos. Entice the kids or partners with a special treat or going somewhere special after the session or the following day. For partners, you know what they need to be bribed with to look and smile at the camera.. I will let you use your imagination for that one 😉
- AVOID SCREEN TIME BEFORE THE SESSION! Screen time often times is not helpful when kids are about to melt down, and can often make things worse. Avoid any screen time until after the session! That is one less transition that you have to worry about before the session. Just turn on the music, and blast it on your way to the session! Keep the good vibes rolling. 😇

And another thing to remember when you book your session - if summer time hours are too tough for your family, that is OKAY! Fall and Spring offer earlier golden hour times too. You can get beautiful golden hour sessions throughout the year!

HELLO THERE 👋

It’s been a while since I have shared a photo of me on here - so it’s time for an introduction! I’m Emily, your Denver Colorado family, maternity, newborn/baby & love story photographer ✨

Photography has been in my life since middle school, and I have had a business on and off over the last decade in two different states. I have learned from SO many incredible photographers, and continue to learn from those in the community because I find that always learning always leads to improvements. Striving for perfection is unrealistic, but striving for a beautiful moment is extremely achievable. I live for the beautiful moments. The raw. The authentic. The moments you want to always relive. That’s exactly what my bread and butter is. The jam to my toast. That’s why you’re here!

When you book a session with me, you will get nothing short of crystal clear communication. As someone who does not like surprises (except for birthdays or dance parties!), I strive to make your experience as positive and informative as possible. This allows you to always know what to expect during our time together from the moment you inquire, to the moment you get your gallery!

So, let me share a few fun facts to help break the ice a bit:
- Alex & I met at a BBQ restaurant, and bonded over a dark joke 🤪 we have a unique sense of humor!
- When editing your gallery, I am likely binge watching Grey’s anatomy, New Girl, or any new trash tv shows. (I love other people’s drama 😂)
- My family is all over the USA. From Alabama, Connecticut, North Carolina, Massachusetts, Florida, and beyond!
- Hiking, Biking and shopping are our favorite pass times ✨
- Surprises are not my favorite, unless they are birthday’s, dance parties, or your pregnancy announcements 😉
- Chocolate is LIFE.
- I LOVE to talk to people. Meeting new people and talking to them is one of my favorite parts of this job. If you look up extrovert in the dictionary- its a picture of me LOL.
- I also LOVE to make people laugh and smile. I would say I’m pretty good at it too 🥰

Nothing sweeter then holding your dream come true ✨

Any other night owls awake? This precious girl was wanting to be awake during her photo session and be a part of the action. She did fall asleep after a little convincing (and lots of milkies), but the awake photos we have of her were too precious.

A rule I like to follow with my newborn sessions is that if the baby is awake and happy, we can do the session. If baby is awake and sad, their needs come first! As you quickly learn with a newborn, they will let you know when they need something, and definitely run the show in the early days. Okay, really they run the show forever, but don't tell the new parents that LOL. So when it comes to their session, please trust the process and try to relax and enjoy this milestone in your family's life.

It is so fun creating traditions with your growing family. From the first holidays, to family vacations, to welcoming new family members over time. This family decided for baby #1 they were not going to find out the gender, and loved that fun surprise when they met their sweet baby girl. Now that baby #2 is on the way, they are continuing that tradition, and loving it all over again. 🩷🩵

We had SO much fun during their in home session a couple of weeks ago. Everyone was able to be in the photos, including Murphy, who was the first baby! It was so relaxed, full of fun, and extremely sentimental. 🫶
