Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of global events including 1 billion people in 193 countries.

The official theme for 2024 is "Planet vs Plastics". The goal is to decrease plastic production by 60% by 2040. Earth Day organizers will support this goal by promoting awareness of the damage done by plastic to humans and animals, by rapidly phasing out all single use plastics and investing in innovative technologies and materials to build a plastic-free world.
