At approximately 1:38AM Dallas County Dispatch was contacted about a vehicle in Redfield that was driving at a high rate of speed. The caller reported that there was a large amount of vehicle debris on the east side of the Redfield dam and that they believed the vehicle had entered the water.

The Dallas County Sheriff's Office and the Redfield Fire Department responded to the area. First responders did locate a vehicle in the water completely submerged at the bottom of the dam area. Vehicle debris was found all over the area.

Utilizing a diver, Mad J Towing was able to recover the vehicle. The vehicle sustained very heavy damage to the front area and was completely totaled. The vehicle has been identified as a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. Inside of the vehicle, in the driver's seat, deputies located Jordan West, 32 years old, from Minburn, Iowa. West was deceased and his body was turned over to the medical examiners for further investigation.

Preliminary investigation at the scene indicates that the vehicle hit several large boulders in the dam area before it entered the water. There is no foul play suspected at this time and there is no danger to the public. This investigation is on going.

The Adel Fire Department also assisted with this case.

On Wednesday, 06/01 the MAD J heavy recovery team was called out by police for a multi-vehicle accident involving two CMVs. A loaded dump truck had struck a concrete mixer, rolling the concrete mixer over on the interstate. After the collision with the concrete mixer the dump truck exited the interstate, crashed through a guard rail, and caught fire after striking a bridge pillar. The customer operating the concrete mixer had called out another local towing company to recover their unit, so efforts were focused on the demolished dump truck.

Once arriving on scene, MAD J staff noted that the unit still contained flammable diesel fuel and that battery cables were still intact and arcing. Our service truck was able to pump all flammable diesel fuel from the unit and cut the arcing battery cables to eliminate the possibility of flame reignition.

Once all safety concerns had been addressed, recovery efforts could now begin. Due to extensive damage to the burned up dump truck, the unit had to be lifted and placed into our sliding axle trailer to be hauled from the scene. As with most burn jobs, much debris was left behind. Once the unit was removed from the scene, debris was cleared and the streets were cleaned with the use of our skid steer and power broom. Once all recovery efforts were completed, the unit was then transported to the company's lot.

This job definitely was performed flawlessly by our team and we couldn't be any more proud! The teamwork and camaraderie between staff and all agencies included was seamless due to many past cross training exercises with one another.

Agencies assisting on scene include: Ankeny Police Department, Ankeny Professional Firefighters, Iowa State Patrol , Iowa Department of Transportation , Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement's, and both companies involved in the collision.

**Added note: both drivers involved in this incident escaped with minor injuries.

We got the call on this one. When we think we've seen it all, we really haven't. No CDL, no operating authority to pull a non owned trailer and no logbook, in addition to the violations in the pictures. This equipment was headed to Mexico, so great work by the Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement for putting the brakes on this one and stopping it from going any further. The driver did not speak English, so it's questionable if he even understood the severity of the situation. Be safe out there.

Like everyone else in the area, it seems, we are in need of some help. Unfortunately, the lady I currently have in this position is retiring and will be greatly missed. I need someone who doesn't mind working with a range of customers, can help with billing, is proficient in Quickbooks, and can basically keep us organized when it comes to the paperwork side of the business!

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Iowa State Patrol Trooper Ted Benda. Trooper Benda was involved in a single vehicle accident while responding to a call for service on Oct. 14, 2021 and has since succumbed to his injuries. Thank you for your service Trooper #313.

The men and women of the Iowa State Patrol and Department of Public Safety are heartbroken to announce the loss of one of our own, Trooper Ted Benda ISP #313. Trooper Benda, 37, was involved in a single-vehicle crash on Thursday, October 14th while in route to assist the Clayton County Sheriff's Office with a wanted suspect. He succumbed to his injuries today, October 20, 2021.

Trooper Benda joined the DCI in 2005, assigned to the Special Enforcement Operations Bureau in Marquette. He transferred to the State Patrol in 2016, assigned to District 8 in Mason City and most recently working out of the District 10 office in Oelwein. He is not only a valuable part of the Department of Public Safety, but he was more importantly a loving husband, father, son, and brother. Trooper Benda leaves behind his wife, Holly, and their four young children along with many family, friends, and colleagues.

Please keep the Benda family in your thoughts and prayers as they face this unimaginable loss.
