Meet Gary Marker, Jr. Gary is our President and Owner. Gary has been with L&L for over 26 years! What Gary enjoys most about his job is solving problems and working with people. Gary’s biggest challenge is that everyday can be a new challenge but that’s why he loves his career! Gary’s secret talent is being able to sew. Something Gary’s always wanted to learn is how to speak Spanish. When not at work Gary enjoys watching his two boys play sports and spending time with family. The funny thing about L&L is when people retire from here, they never actually retire. Steve “retired” in 2020 but he never stopped working. He’s been on with us part-time since then and has been a vital part of our team in his time here.

Today, Steve officially retired after almost 25 years of service! We got to officially place his “retired” label on his photo in the hall of fame. We hope Steve gets to enjoy all that retirement has to offer!

Meet Rick Armstrong, our Contracting Business Developer. Rick has been with the company for 2 years. What Rick enjoys most about his job is the people, the mission and making a difference! Ricks secret talent is being a presenter for sales and corporation trainings on vision, mission and value statements. Rick has always wanted learn to improve his golf game. When not at work Rick enjoys many different activities! These include golf, hunting, riding motorcycles, scuba diving, fishing, racing cars, football and hanging out with his family and friends. Thanks for being a part of the team, Rick!

We are excited to announce that Liz Legg has been promoted to Production Supervisor! Liz started with us as a temporary employee in our warehouse in 2022 and was hired on shortly after. Liz has been working as a working foreperson during this time so we have no doubt she will excel in this position. Please join us in congratulating Liz on this promotion!

Meet Jen Nordhagen. Jen is our Controller & Corporate Administration Manager. Jen has been with the company for 29 years! (Fun Fact, she’s the second longest tenured female employee L&L has had). What she enjoys most about her job is the people she gets to work with and the family-oriented company environment. Jen’s secret talent is being able to crochet just about anything, and she’s really good at creating swimsuit cover-ups. Something Jen has always wanted to learn is how to be an iPhone user (and her team really wants her to also!) When not at work Jen is the Carlisle High School cheerleading coach, she enjoys spending time with friends and riding UTV’s. Thank you for being a part of the team, Jen!

We are excited to share that two of our employees, Curt Bouchard and Karter Shimon, are celebrating promotions!

Curt Bouchard, who has been with us for 25 years, is moving from Inside Account Manager to our Purchasing Manager.
Karter Shimon, who has been with us for almost 3 years, started out as Wholesale Customer Service. In December he took over some of our Freight Management, in addition to his Customer Service role. Karter has since moved to Wholesale Account Manager.

Meet Pat Prince. Pat is our Contracting Business Manager. Pat has been with L&L for 7 1/2 years! What Pat enjoys most about his job is all of the different moving parts and all the different people he gets to work with to accomplish projects. One of the biggest challenges with Pat’s role is making sure everyone understands it’s the teamwork that makes everyone successful. Something Pat has always wanted to learn is piano or a foreign language. When not at work Pat enjoys camping, riding his motorcycle, fishing and hunting. Thank you for being a part of the team, Pat!

Meet Ben Avila, one of our 1st year apprentices. Ben has been with L&L for just over 2 years. What Ben enjoys most about his job is being able to provide for his fiancé. The biggest challenge for Ben can be his schooling program through the union. Ben’s has always wanted to learn A/C repair. When not at work ben enjoys working on his vehicles. Meet Lamar Triplett! Lamar is a first shift production employee in our warehouse. Lamar has been with L&L for over 17 years!!! What Lamar likes most about his job is being able to help others. The biggest struggle with his job can be staying ahead with the variety of different jobs he has to complete. One of Lamar’s secret talents is he’s very good at math. Lamar has always wanted to learn how to play the drums. When not working Lamar enjoys relaxing and spending time with his family.

Meet Cory McFarland. Cory is one of our many Mechanical pipe insulators with the Local 74. Cory has been with L&L for 10 years (today)! What Cory enjoys most about his job is being a part of the construction in the Des Moines area. Cory’s biggest challenge in his role can be his lack of mobility in some areas. Cory had a battle with cancer recently and the surgery left him with some mobility issues. Cory’s secret talent is he enjoys singing. Something Cory has always wanted to learn is to play the upright bass. When not at work Cory enjoys fishing and whitetail hunting. Thank you for being a part of the team, Cory!

We’re so excited for this to come to fruition! It’s not yet completed but we couldn’t wait to share this work in progress with everyone.
How many workplaces get to share not one, not two but THREE employees that have made it 50+ years with them? Apparently so few that the BLS doesn’t even keep that data!

Meet Oliver Sandy, our Office Manager. Oliver has been with the company for almost 3 years!
What Oliver likes most about his job is unlimited treats and attention all day long. The biggest challenge in his position is his mom. Oliver’s secret talent is his ability to burp like a human. Oliver has always wanted to learn how to open the snack drawer and refrigerator. When not at work Oliver loves playing with his friends Nutmeg, Bo, Spike, Pixie and Clover. He also has a little sister at home that loves to give him treats when their mom isn’t looking.. Thanks for being a part of the team, Oliver!
