Wish we had good news on the status of our food-rescue trucks. After picking up the International from the dealership in Pensacola this morning, the truck fell back into "limp" mode once we arrived in Fort Walton. We had to bring it right back to Ward International after having already paid $2,863! The Freightliner M2 had the manifold gasket replaced two weeks ago (18 hour job), and in the process revealed the turbo and actuator are in real bad shape, which is luckily under warranty. However, we just received word the warranty will only cover $3,400 of the $7881 repair. Our program is still in serious need of support right now to handle these unforeseen yet unavoidable costly repairs. We are extremely grateful for those of you who have already helped and ask that you continue to share our ongoing need with others. www.destinharvest.org/donate
July was our most productive month to date. Between daily deliveries to food programs and bi-weekly distributions, 316k lbs. of foods were distributed within Okaloosa and Walton County!! Below are some great shots of Monday's delivery route in Crestview, FL. Unfortunately, we are unable to complete our Crestview route today. Two of our biggest trucks continue to have mechanical problems and are back in the shop. We hope to be back online by mid next week. Please keep sharing our posts and need for support! www.destinharvest.org/donate
We're just getting started this morning! These pallets are stacked with meat, produce, and dry goods. This truck will make deliveries to programs in Fort Walton and Crestview. Our other driver is heading to Walton County with a similarly stacked truck!
The beautiful truck in the first picture is back on the road today! The repair set us back $2,450. Our other truck is still in Pensacola awaiting diagnosis. Destin Harvest has already incurred over $10k in truck and refrigerator repairs since April. From our last post, DH has received 8 contributions totaling $1,750. This is a huge help and we are immensely grateful! Unfortunately, DH is still in need of serious community support to overcome these substantial expenses. Please consider making a contribution and sharing our call to action. www.destinharvest.org/donate
The pictures below are all shots of operation in July. Despite mechanical setbacks, DH had a tremendous month of food rescue and hunger relief!
Not a fun or exciting post. We currently have two trucks down and can really use some serious community support. This is our Freightliner. The manifold has a bad gasket. It causes exhaust to blow into the cab. This is an 18-hour repair to replace a cheap but essential part. We drove our other primary truck to the service center in Pensacola yesterday in "limp" mode. The engine computer is having issues communicating with the transmission computer. We just had all three refrigerators on our trucks serviced. We're currently connecting over 150k pounds of food a month at no charge to 39 local nonprofits. If you are in a position to make a donation, we could really use the help. At the very least, please share our post! 🙏 www.destinharvest.org/donate
The food distribution at the fairgrounds was a tremendous success! Over 500 cars were served a variety of meats, dry goods, potatoes, watermelon, strawberries, yogurt, eggs, bakery items, and more. Feeding the Gulf Coast delivered nearly 30k pounds of food to DH for this event! A huge thank you to them, Northwest Florida Fairgrounds, Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, Beulah First Baptist Church, and many others for volunteering and making this possible!
We're moving as fast as we can! Please bear with us 🙏 Feeding the Gulf Coast Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office Northwest Florida Fairgrounds Beulah First Baptist Church

New Life SDA Food Distribution Feeding the Gulf Coast
Over 500 families were served yesterday morning at the food give-away at Freeport Commons! This wouldn't be possible without the tremendous contribution from Feeding the Gulf Coast and the hard work of New Life SDA Food Distribution, Community Officers with Walton County Sheriff's Office, Florida, among others who collaborated to host this wonderful event. Over 25k pounds of food were distributed to the community!!
Food donations are keeping steady after memorial day weekend! Local food programs are receiving a nice variety of meats, produce, dry goods, and bakery items daily. With school out, the need increases substantially.
We had an outstanding turnout today! Over 34k pounds of eggs, milk, frozen chicken tenders, cucumbers, watermelon, squash, bakery, dry goods, and more delivered to us by Feeding the Gulf Coast . The rain was unforgiving. We made a plan early in the morning to pull all the food through the back of Northwest Florida Fairgrounds. 20 incredible volunteers helped us organize the food inside the building, and then we pulled it all out front under the awning of the main entrance. We served roughly 300 cars this morning! We are so grateful for all the help we received today and that people showed up. Big thank you to Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office for not only controlling the flow of cars, but also stepping in to help us get the food out to the cars! This was a tremendous collaboration and benefit to food security within Okaloosa communities.
UPDATE - food giveaway is over. All food went out by 11:30 a.m. Northwest Florida Fairgrounds Feeding the Gulf Coast
We are still interviewing and looking for the right fit for our operation. If you know somebody who would make an awesome addition to our team, please send them our way!
