My following passions in nursing: women's health, education & health equity. I've started a new journey, cannabis nursing (yes it's a real thing) and what a perfect way to combine all my passions!
Growing up during the "War on Drugs" era, cannabis has always been a stigma. Until I started learning about the endocannabinoid system and the health benefits of cannabis. We need to start recognizing this plant as medicine and how it can bring health equity to patients. As Dr. Rachel Knox says, "social equity is the vehicle and health equity is the destination."

Today I met with a patient enrolled in our nurse driven quality improvement project for high blood pressure in pregnancy. Each patient gets a BP cuff, one on one education and we address any psychosocial needs. My patient opened up about her depression, tears were shed, referrals made, and mutual goals set. We will keep in touch throughout her pregnancy. I love this. Providing much needed equitable care to improve not only pregnancy outcomes but also mental health. One patient touched. One patient left smiling ❤️

This. We as nurses, as health care providers need to stand up and speak out. We need to break down barriers and provide equitable care. Being silent is no longer enough.
