✨ A Message From Rachel ✨

Dear Frida Fans,

Frida started with a humble sweater. It was chunky, funky, woven with metallic thread, irregular knit-basically, she was perfect. I first encountered this magic sweater at a buying show, and while I was gushing about this amazing piece to a friend, she said “so, you bought it, right?”

Dear reader, I didn’t order it. At the time, it didn’t feel “Peacock Room” enough, and I didn’t want to order something that wouldn’t fit with the rest of the shop. I knew it needed a home somewhere, though, and the idea of Frida as its own store was born. Frida opened in 2014 and was immediately embraced by the Midtown and greater Metro Detroit area as the place to come for Boho-inspired daywear and fun gifts and accessories for the free spirit in your life.

One of the reasons I was drawn to the Park Shelton as a retail space was because Frida Kahlo once called it home, and who wouldn’t want to be in her company? Frida also lived her life the way I want you to live yours- authentically, unapologetically, and with passion.

Much like how that first chunky funky sweater wrapped my mind in a warm embrace, we are wrapping the idea of Frida as its own brand back into the embrace of The Peacock Room! Our space in the Park Shelton will still be the place to come for expressive and interesting pieces for wherever the day takes you, just under the Peacock Room brand. This transition will be gradual, with an expected completion by Spring 2024. We’ll be making some updates to our space, and we’re so excited to eventually see a Peacock Room sign on Woodward!

I am a firm believer that every day is a special occasion. My intention with Frida was to create a place to find remarkable pieces to make every day remarkable. Whether you’re headed to date night, getting ready to nail your big work presentation, or exploring our beautiful city with friends, we are excited to bring Frida back under the Peacock Room brand in order to help you express your personal style authentically and with flair.

We hope you join us in celebrating this new step and expansion! We are so excited to continue to serve you in an expanded capacity as The Peacock Room.
