Video: A Detroit Deli Man's Thoughts on His Final Days Behind the Counter and Brushes with Hollywood Talk a few minutes to Stuart Litt and it's clear he's ready to retire after 50 years behind the counter slicing corned beef, pastrami and dil pickles at Hygrade Deli on Michigan Avenue in Detroit.

As you should know by know I have passed the torch of ownership to Mr Charles Nolen of Cutters bar and grill in the eastern market. This past Friday was the official announcement of his taking ownership and my pending retirement. Chuck put on a great event highlighted by the appearance of Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan , Wayne county executive Warren Evans, and district 6 councilwoman Gabby Santiago Romero. Can’t thank everyone enough. To our customers and friends thank you again for your support and please remember Hygrade Deli will continue on.

Hygrade Deli Has a New Owner, But Don’t Worry, Nothing Will Change The owner of another iconic Detroit restaurant is taking over the stalwart deli

Dear Customers and Friends,

As I have said many times, my father bought Hygrade Deli from its original owner back on Feb 2nd, 1972. I worked the first couple of summers, then on a full time basis before taking over from my dad many years later. Now almost 50 years later to the day, I announce with excitement and mixed emotions that I have sold the Hygrade Deli. The new owner is Charles Nolen. Chuck also owns Cutters Bar and Grill on Orleans Street in the Eastern Market. I look forward to working in the transition with Chuck and his people, showing them how we do it at the Hygrade Deli, so that nothing changes in the food and service you have come to expect. The good news is that Chuck will retain the staff that you all have come to know and love. When transition is complete, I will move on to the next chapter of my life. My dad, may he rest in peace, and me and my family want to thank everyone past and present for your valued support. We couldn't have done it without you. Be safe, Be well, and please continue to support as Hygrade Deli lives on.

Hygrade Deli owner retires, sells to owner of another iconic Detroit restaurant New owner Chuck Nolen says he will keep the menu and the staff the same.

Please note, we will be closed this Friday thru Sunday, December 31st thru January 2nd. Open Monday January 3rd. Everyone have a safe and joyful holiday weekend and a healthy, happy, safe and prosperous new year.

It’s a holiday weekend coming up that means we get some time off we will be closed this Saturday, September 4 through Monday, September 6 we will reopen Tuesday, September 7 everyone have a safe and happy holiday weekend

Dear customers and friends, it is time to recharge our internal batteries and tho we we’re closed this past week due to situations beyond our control this week is our scheduled vacation time. Not a bad way to start the week, first a film shoot with some great people on Sunday and today I get to meet Fox 2 news reporter and personality Jessica Dupnack. next???

Had a great group of people affiliated with Central Michigan University come to the store and film some scenes for a project they are doing . So nice to meet Katy, Sara , Elizabeth, Bill And Tack, and of course I had a starring role as usual when anyone films at the store, part of the agreement

Happy anniversary to us. 49 years ago on February 2,1972 my dad took the keys as the new owner of Hygrade Deli. I have been here practically every step of the way. We appreciate greatly all the support you our friends and customers have given us thru the years and look forward to your continued support. It is our pleasure to serve you and yes our dinning room is now open to limited capacity. Thank you all very much as we continue on in year 49
