We’re incredibly thankful to have as a part of our family. The produce harvested from this beautiful 2-acre urban farm is a beacon of our restaurant menu providing clean and delicious nourishment to our guests day after day, meal after meal. But even more, it reminds us that it’s important to regularly disconnect from technology and reconnect with the earth. When you get outside and into nature, you begin to reveal a world full of excitement. If you’re willing to commit to this philosophy on even the smallest level, we assure you that you’ll eventually enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Vegetables include fennel, heirloom tomatoes and celeriac. Coming to a Takoi menu soon.

LADYMONIX, the celebrated Detroit-based producer and DJ, has become a household name in the world of electronic music for her vibrant, deep disco and house sets that never fail to move dance-floors. Her musical journey, which began in Baltimore, is deeply informed by the history of house music - shaped by the jacking sounds of Baltimore club and soulful house classics, alongside the grooves of disco and ‘90s pop that filled her parents’ lavish basement parties.

The pivotal move to Detroit in 2016 marked a new chapter in her journey, and two years later, she established her own record label, Frizner Electric. swiftly ingrained herself in Detroit’s electronic music scene, making her a prominent figure. Her extensive catalog is a testament to her talent, featuring original releases on Frizner Electric including the recent collaboration with Wajeed as House of Hits and exclusive tracks and remixes for iconic labels like Planet E, Soul Clap Records, Toucan Sounds, and Frank Music. Currently, LADYMONIX is continuing to craft her distinctive sound in the studio. Her schedule is brimming with releases over the next two years, promising an exciting evolution of her signature style. With a career that spans the globe and a true commitment to her craft, she continues to be a driving force in the world of electronic music.

It’s been a very long time since we’ve been graced with LADYMONIX’s signature house sounds at Takoi and we’re brimming with excitement to have her back. Definitely one of the patio highlights of the summer here, not to be missed. Catch her live in action on Friday August 16th from 8pm until 10pm.

Today marks 10 years since we began this wild ride that would become known as Takoi. From the launch of our food truck (R.I.P.) to the brick and mortar location and the challenging yet memorable moments that have occurred since then. The restaurant industry can be a grind but we’re of the mindset that if you can survive 10 years in a restaurant then you can damn near accomplish anything. We’re eternally grateful for the community support and look forward to serving you all for another 10 years and beyond!

Be on the lookout. We have some very exciting news to announce in the next few weeks to celebrate 10 years of Takoi. There will be food, drinks, and design collabs to share, but hold tight. Until then, you know where to find us!

If we had to pick a dish that embodies the bounty of summer, then we’d most certainly award that medal to the Heirloom Tomatoes. Even so, it’s far more complex than just a bunch of tomatoes dressed up. It’s Michigan seasonality meets Thailand meets Italy. Think caprese salad made with farm grown herbs and tomatoes then jazzed up with a thai chili jam sauce and finished with some crunchy bits. Yeah, that makes our brains go wild too! Available on the menu now until the tomatoes last.

The Michigan wine industry is abuzz right now with this sense of rebelliousness that makes it intriguing to us at Takoi. Unlike other established wine regions around the country, Michigan is still relatively young. However, I would not mistake young for inexperienced. With this youth brings this sense of innovation and doing things differently than done before. This is how we’d describe

Owners Jim and Carol Gonzalez purchased the La Esperanza vineyard circa 2014 in the Fennville AVA, considered to be Michigan’s very first American viticulture area. At first, they were growing and selling fruit but by 2016 they began wine production. This prompted them to obtain a much larger estate called La Gracia where 16 acres are now dedicated to grape cultivation for wine production, making them a quality boutique producer. This would have also been at the time their relationship with Andrew Backlin began, a budding winemaker who got his start in Northern California.

What made this prospect intriguing for Andrew was that Michigan had yet to be defined by its grapes, unlike California where only certain types can be grown in certain regions. Andrew used this as an opportunity for experimentation, vacillating between many different varieties in an attempt to imbue a sense of playfulness and to push the boundaries on what could feasibly exist in the Michigan climate.

Their lineup is a testament to this whimsical spirit. Modales churns out anything from skin contact wines and Blaufrankisch to experimenting with Alicante Bouchet, Semillion, and Tannat. With this kind of lineup, you get the sense they’re charting their own course rather than following the pack and that is really exciting to us!

On Wednesday, August 7th, we will be hosting Modales Wines, along with winemaker Andrew Backlin, for a special wine happy hour on our patio from 5pm until 8pm. The event is a celebration for the release of Bueno Jugo red blend. Mark those calendars!

Curry is a culinary behemoth in Thailand. It is believed that its origins in Thailand date back many centuries ago where Indian traders and buddhist missionaries shared aromatics like cumin, shallot, and lemongrass throughout the Kingdom of Siam, setting the stage for what we know as Thai curry today. It takes its inspiration from all over the world making it as diverse and wide-ranging as the regions and cultures found throughout the country.

Thai Green curry is among the most popular, particularly in the central region, and gets its vibrant colors from green chilis, lime leaf, cilantro and thai basil. It’s a beautiful interplay of sweet, savory, spicy and a hint of sour flavors that elevates any number of complimenting flavors.

For our version, we use a grilled patty pan squash that is grown . It’s the perfect harmony between classic Thai green curry and Michigan seasonality.

Terri McQueen, aka Whodat has known and felt the healing power of music her whole life growing up in Detroit, MIchigan. For well over a decade, she’s worked to spread that spirit through her djing and productions but she has had her antenna tuned into the unique sounds of jazz, gospel, house, rnb, and soul since her childhood. She has always had a connection with music, though Whodat didn’t make a go of deejaying until later in her life, allowing the craft to choose her at a moment that was kismet.

This would seem very fitting. Her music curation possesses a different kind of sound and a different ability to tap into a soul that is not widespread amongst most performers. She has invented her own journey that is unlike anyone else’s path. It’s why Whodat is beloved in the music community and It’s why she leaves such an indelible impact on the listener when they hear her music for the first time.

It’s also why we can’t resist inviting her back to Takoi, again and again. This Friday, Whodat will be taking over the turntables from 8pm - 10pm. Expect breezy, soulful and uplifting grooves that will elevate the vibes and bring even more sparkle to our beautiful patio at Takoi. Opening sounds from and . Passion Fruit is always FREE to attend.

Three friends, .darling , and , we meant to come together on a project. They all have a strong commitment to the region and an even stronger commitment to their community. Rob Nash is a lifelong Detroiter whose background includes engaging communities through music and volunteer work. After graduating from Wayne State, he taught a music enrichment program Wayne Metropolitan Community Action and also added his efforts at Greening of Detroit. As a masters of urban planning student at Wayne State, Jared Talaga put his energy into urban agriculture - a mission that y’all know is near and dear to our hearts - working alongside Growing Hope to help assess the long term infrastructure benefits of local farming. Joe Darling has a background in music curation and hospitality. He’s led beverage programs in both Chicago and Detroit and has spent more than a decade as sound curator for hospitality focused, Uncanned Music. Through there collective energies sprouted a new music venue.

Located at the confluence of Wildmere Park and LaSalle Gardens, is an artist-led new music venue, face and listening space here in Detroit, centered on creating an essential outlet and resource for neighbors, music seekers, Detroit’s creative communities, and touring artists. Further, the cafe serves as an intimate platform for local and visiting artists, encouraging new relationships around listening to and sharing new music.

For this Friday’s Passion Fruit, we will be supporting the efforts of Moondog Cafe by donating a portion of sales from our signature cocktails starting this Friday and going through the following week. La Na is a staple dish found all over Thailand from casual restaurants to street vendors. Like many noodle dishes in Thailand, they begin with a Chinese origin. That is why this dish doesn’t seem particularly Thai at first glance - it doesn’t contain ingredients like coconut, lemongrass, or fish sauce - but is most certainly a staple within their dining culture. It is pure comfort food. No frills, just wok-charred noodles, quality vegetables and unctuous mushroom gravy. What else do you need?

Charred rice noodles stir-fried with mushrooms, broccolini, mushroom gravy, garlic, white pepper and vinegar chilies. Gluten Free.

We’re pleased to welcome back our third annual Passion Fruit series and fundraiser for local and national organizations that are positively impacting their communities. Why do we do this? Because as a restaurant, our fundamental purpose is to nourish the communities that we serve. We believe that our nourishment can extend beyond the walls of our restaurant and in a way that gives back to the community. This is the foundation for our event series. Whether through delicious food or through the support of organizations that are giving back, Passion Fruit serves as a continuation of this core value.

For our first event of the season, proceeds from the sale of our cocktails will go to benefit Keep Growing Detroit. We are honored that KGD is joining us this season and are beyond excited to support their cause of food sovereignty. As many of you may know, Takoi operates HiO Farm which is located on an acre of cultivated land in Core City, Detroit. From the middle of spring to the end of fall, HiO is our main source of produce both here at Takoi and Spiedo. Each season is planned with these restaurants in mind, creating a closed loop, sustainable food system from seed to plate.

Many would call this farm-to-table but we call it a necessary restaurant function. We realized that we needed abundant access to delicious and healthy food for the survival of our restaurants, and so we felt the only way to really accomplish this was to build it ourselves. Now that it’s in operation, we cannot imagine a world without it. Just like we cannot not imagine a world without food sustainability and organizations like KGD doing great work to support this cause. It’s companies like them that give us the inspiration to continue our work.

The party kicks off at 4pm with resident deejay Drew P***a featuring special guests, David A-P and Peter Croce. Alex will be holding it down at an outdoor bar and chef Grad Greenhill will be serving up his Takoi Noodle pop-up on the patio. Regular patio window service will also be available. As always, FREE to attend!

Takoi launched its food truck ten years ago this coming August in the parking lot of and opened its current location in 2016. Including the auto repair shop and Xavier’s Antiques, we were the only businesses operating on this stretch of Michigan Ave from 14th street to interstate 96. Many called us a destination restaurant. And while that can be an exciting term to throw around, at the end of the day being a destination restaurant can also be a little isolating, especially with a view of an empty Michigan Central lying in the shadows.

This never discouraged our ambitions though. We knew we wanted to remain a part of this community on the western edge of Corktown so we kept chugging along, churning out food and drinks and continued to dream what was next on the horizon for our little stretch of Michigan Ave. With that being said, it comes with extreme jubilation and great sense of pride to finally welcome back one of Detroit’s most iconic buildings. Congratulations on this historic moment and welcome to the neighborhood!

As many of you know, Michigan Central re-launches tomorrow with a live concert at Roosevelt Park. Please note June 6th road closures in the third image. Ticketed public tours follow from Friday June 7th until Sunday June 16th. We highly encourage you to stick around after your tour, grab a seat in our dining room, bar or on our patio and cap this historical moment with a dinner at Takoi. We’re open Tuesday through Saturday, 4pm until 10pm. Walk-ins are welcomed. Reservations are encouraged!

Spring and summer so exciting for us because it marks a yearly return to delicious produce, harvested from - a true labor of love and a pillar of our food sustainability mission here at Takoi.

Located just over a mile from Takoi, Hio Farm began in 2019 and exists on an acre of cultivated land in Core City. Operated by farm steward Noellle Stull, the farm functions as an ongoing conversation between farmer and chef. Each season is planned with Takoi and Spiedo in mind, creating a closed loop sustainable food system from seed to plate. It is not unusual for a harvest to occur at a moment’s notice.

When you get a dish at Takoi in season, you are enjoying a plate of food that was hand-harvested at peak quality with care, attention to detail, and most of all, with love!

Our bbq hen of the woods has steadily grown into a rotating menu staple over the years. Known also by the name Maitake mushroom, the dish packs a depth of flavor that tricks the senses into believing that you’re eating something grilled and meaty but when in reality, you’re savoring a umami-laced mushroom that has been kissed by fire. A great option for all of our vegan friends!
