Honored to bring legendary French Jazz-Funk band Cortex to Detroit for their first time since the 1970’s. I’ve been trying to bring this one to Detroit for 3 years and it’s finally happening. One of my favorite bands of all time — and also one of the most infamous through samples used by other artists like MF DOOM & Madlib, Tyler The Creator, Danny Brown, Flying Lotus and over 100 others. It’s been an incredible year and we’re thankful for a solid team (or family) who holds our venue down every day. One thought I’ve had a lot this year is how when talking about live music, the general public seems to think there’s so much money to be made in that space but the reality is, no sane person would ever do this kind of work thinking it’s a get rich quick scheme. Independent venues and independent promoters especially operate on such thin margins (especially in smaller rooms) and your support of them is truly make or break. I genuinely believe live music is one of the most important aspects of any cities cultural landscape for mental health and general health of a community. We’d like to extend our appreciation to every independent promoter or venue who dedicates themselves everyday to the live performance space, as it is essentially a public service run by real people who are often struggling with mental health issues themselves. I know personally it’s therapeutic and one of the most healing things to see others enjoying themselves while at a concert, and the sense of togetherness that comes in gathering around our favorite artists. That’s the thing that makes the work worth it. Here’s a diverse list of a few shows we’re proud to have booked this year at El Club that captured that special feeling. All love to everybody who supported live music or your favorite artist in any capacity this year — it’s been a weird one but extremely blessed nonetheless. Hope you’ll join us again soon.
