Face it… most runners run too fast on their slow days and too slow on their fast days.
Many blindly follow the “no pain no gain” mantra, assuming that they need to work as hard as possible on every run to see improvement.
However, the reality is that this isn’t how runners get build endurance, resilience, power, aerobic capacity, or improve performance.
Running too fast too often makes it impossible to recover and can lead to injuries and overtraining.
Let's pace ourselves for the long run, not just the sprint. 🏃♂️
Let's embrace healthier choices, challenging the misconceptions, and getting our bodies moving! 🚶♂️🏃♂️
Q: What is polarized or 80/20 training?
A: Polarized training has been the most popular method of training the world’s elite endurance athletes for decades.
At its core, polarized training involves doing most of your training at a low intensity. 80% of your training to be exact.
That intensity is measured in terms of your lactate levels, heart rate, or heart rate zones.
While some will rely on lactic acid testing and metabolic testing in labs to precisely identify training zones… for the average runner, heart rate zones work very well. Your heart rate for low-intensity training may be lower or higher than your peers.
Let's talk lactate shuttle because it's the secret sauce to elevating your runs from 'just another 5 miles' to 'strategically boosting my health.'
Too many runners leave their houses every day without a plan. Sure, they might know that they have to do a 5-mile run. But they have no idea how fast it should be, what their optimal heart zone is, or how it should be different from the run they did the day before.
Time to embrace a smarter, scientifically supported approach to our runs
Who else is guilty of focusing on the 'but it's hard' part of running? 🙈
Let's flip the script: think about what staying still might cost us.
Here's to jogging, walking, or sprinting into a healthier future, one step at a time.
Because honestly, we're not just running from getting older; we're running towards staying younger! 🏃♀️👟
