Though only a guideline, it is recommended to try to wait 5 years to move once buying a home to offset your transaction costs. It typically takes several years for a home to appreciate enough to cover these costs.

While you may be tempted to just tape up a few samples, you should paint swatches on a wall of the room you intend to change to see how the color and texture appears.
