May 1-5 was our annual Outdoor Education Trip in which we returned to the coast of Alabama as we did not end up having the best weather last year. We had beautiful weather by the grace of God this year though! Over our five days there, we visited the National Naval Aviation Museum, the historic district of downtown Pensacola, Gulf Shores State Park, Fort Morgan and Dauphin Island. The students learned how to grind corn, the history of aviation in our country, why sand dunes and the ocean are so important to our environment, the significance of Fort Morgan to American History, and what the aquatic life of the Gulf of Mexico is all about. We saw dolphins, pet sting rays and sharks, swam in the ocean, and ultimately, learned about the God who created them all. Thank you to Mrs. Mason and the school staff for coordinating this trip every year! Every student and family member who attended had a blast!

Had a fun field trip yesterday to the Computer Museum of America. If you haven’t ever been by, we encourage you to check it out. The older students learned about computer coding and had a good tour/scavenger hunt, while the younger ones learned about rockets, early portable computers (that weighed 25 pounds!), and past technology. A lot of fun relics from long ago! It’s interesting to reflect on how technology has helped shape us and our world in just a small amount of time.

Yesterday evening was our culture fair and it was an awesome event! Our school and church came together to celebrate the different ethnicities with our family. We had about 15 different countries or states represented that offered delicious food from their region. What was really incredible is it gave us all a chance to mingle and learn more about each other. God really used this event in a special way and we are grateful for everyone from the school and church who got involved.

Tonight is our "World Fair and Food Festival"! Please join us for some FREE food from around the world and an opportunity to learn about the various cultures our students come from.

Our Student Week of Prayer has sadly come to an end. Amiya closed us out with the story of Esther. The kids were involved in a skit about the story of Esther and they had a lot of fun. Amiya wanted the kids to know we can trust God and He can use anyone! Thank you to all of our student speakers, teachers, students, and especially God for this wonderful week!

Just finished day four of our student week of prayer and the kids had a blast! Our student speaker Cameron had them play "Jesus Says", his version of Simon Says. The kids had to do things Jesus says, but not so things He wouldn't say. Cameron tied all of this into his favorite Bible hero Noah and how he obeyed God when he built the ark. We should obey God too because He knows what's best for us!

We missed out on posting yesterday, but now days two and three of Student Week of Prayer are in the books. Tuesday morning, Tracy shared with us the story of Elisha and curing the poisoned water. He learned that it's important to give God the credit and not take it for ourselves. Day 3, Cassie shared how God protected Peter while he was in prison, answering his and all of the disciples prayers. She had the students do a skit which reenacted the story in Acts 12. God has blessed so far this week and we look forward to what our last two students share with us on Thursday and Friday!

Next week at this exact time is our FREE World Fair and Food Festival! Join us at our school as our students share about countries they have been studying. They might even share some delicious food from that country as well! More updates to come over the next week about what countries or place you might find here.

Day #1 of Student Week of Prayer is in the books! Our first student, Amayah, did a wonderful job talking about the faith and belief of Mary the mother of Jesus. She had three of the students reenact Mary's story of Jesus's birth. God is so good and we looked forward to the messages the rest of our students bring this week!

The past week here at DAS has been fun! Pastor Ian came on Friday and shared with the students about faithfulness. They did a fun activity where two students led two blindfolded students through a maze of more students! The kids had a blast and learned how its important to be faithful, but also to trust God is faithful!

Our "Black History Month" Open House was a success as the school was open for everyone to come see their projects. We had a great turnout and we are thankful for everyone who came out to support us!

The Saturday evening Souper Bowl Party was fun! So much fun that we forgot to take any pictures, other than this one we were able to snag at the end. (Thanks Rachel for getting us at least one!) Despite the lack of photos, we had a wonderful time eating soup and playing Jeoparty (Pastor Ian's version of the famous gameshow). We are blown away by the support from our church & school community. We raised around $700 to put towards our home and school fund to help with various projects on our campus. Thank you to everyone who donated their time and money to be there. We appreciate you all!

Last Friday, Kristiana Carney visited our school in the afternoon to teach our students about basic first aid. Kristiana taught about an essential part of first aid: washing your hands. The students were given a lotion they could rub on their skin, wash off, and under a blacklight would shown places they missed. The students loved it! They ran back and forth between the bathroom trying to clean them the better than the last until they had no spots left. The students also learned how and when to call 911. Thank you Kristiana for preparing our students to help others!
