Anthony Caruso received his white coat a few weeks ago. 🥼 We asked him if he could give any advice to the kid in the first photo, what would it be? He replied, "Trust your gut – and always make time for God, family, and friends. You won’t regret it." "My main purpose for pursuing a career in medicine stems from my family’s involvement in the field. I remember hearing about my grandfather’s impact on his community as a family physician when I was a kid. I was mesmerized by the small office and waiting room he created inside his row home, and the fact that he was able to manage his patients’ health, his billing, and finances as a sole practitioner. He had no staff and minimal technology, but he persevered through late hours and house calls, so his patients were properly cared for. Growing up, I saw similar tendencies in how my father practiced gastroenterology, most notably his hard work and discipline. On countless occasions, he sacrificed his sleep and personal life to provide a dire service to this great area of Lower Sussex. However, he still made time to attend all of his children’s school functions and sports tournaments, both locally and regionally. Both he and my grandfather embody the type of person I want to be – an advocate for my patients, and a vital member of the community I serve. I chose Bayhealth for several reasons, but mainly because of the positive experience I had during my two years of clinical rotations in the hospitals and surrounding clinics. My hope was to train where I would eventually practice, in the same area where I grew up. I’m proud to be born and raised in Sussex County, and I believe it’s imperative to give back to the community that formed who I am today." Help us congratulate Anthony on his residency in Bayhealth's Family Medicine program below!

Donating for Dad. 💙 Anthony Cibello was a vibrant and active 80 years young in 2013 when doctors in his home state of Pennsylvania told him his heart condition was inoperable. Unsatisfied with their opinion, Cibello’s daughters – one who is a nurse and the other, Michele Campbell, who is a manager in Bayhealth’s Medical Staff Services – found hope for their dad in two Bayhealth clinicians. Thanks in part to the care provided, Cibello lived another 10 years until his passing on April 19, 2024. For this additional time with her dad, Campbell made a financial contribution to the Bayhealth Foundation to support technological advances and healthcare services to help others. Help us congratulate Elizabeth Ford on her well deserved DAISY Award! Please read a few excerpts from the patient's family's nomination letter: "Lizz showed tremendous compassion to my family during an incredibly low and difficult time for us. She treated her patient (my brother) and our entire family with both respect and integrity by the way she provided care and how she includes family in her care. My brother was admitted to Bayhealth in critical condition and he remained so for his entire stay. Lizz was his nurse. She was incredibly responsive during her time with my family and there were certain aspects of her care that struck me particularly as I have been in the nursing field for 15 years with my last 4 and a half years spent as a nurse practitioner. My brother was pronounced braindead Sunday evening. As a family, we chose to gift the organs in his body to not let his death be in vain and to help others live on. I know personally, that this is no easy feat for the providers including the nurses. His code status was returned to full code to allow attempts at resuscitation only for the purpose of organ donation. I too, have personally been bedside, making desperate attempts at preserving a patient for this sake. I know the limitations and the emotional, physical and mental distress this can cause despite knowing that the futility in potentially providing chest compressions to someone who has no functional outcome or chance at life has gone away and now you will be saving upwards of 5+ patients with the organs you are keeping perfused. I sat with the Gift of Life representative, discussing consent with her and my nephew who will now be burying his father and during this I watched Lizz run in and out of the room what seemed like a hundred times. My brother's vital signs were incredibly labile and I watched Lizz advocate for him with the providers and I watched her then approach the Gift of Life representative to keep her aware. My brother's organs were eli

We asked Precious Brown what it felt like to be crowned MVP. Watch to see what she says. All our Bayhealth team members have the power to make a difference and they’re given that opportunity every day across all our locations. For Care Management Associate Precious Brown, an opportunity to raise funds for her peers became yet another moment for her to make a big impact to the tune of $3,323 all to benefit the Team Member Assistance Fund and the new Childcare Center at the Sussex Campus. For her efforts and energy, Brown was named Home Team Court MVP and received an overnight stay and dinner courtesy of Bally’s. To celebrate Nurses Week and Hospital Week in May, the planning committee crafted events around the theme – “Home Team, Your Team – Celebrating Bayhealth’s MVPs.” Much like a high school’s homecoming festivities, the weeks were filled with pep rallies, pom poms, free food, fun, and a homecoming court. The Home Team Court was made up of individuals across the organization who were nominated by their peers. These Home Team Court members campaigned for votes – for every dollar raised, they received one vote. This group collectively raised $8,787 in just two weeks. For raising the most money, Brown was crowned as MVP at Bayhealth’s Movie Night at DE Turf. Brown says being a part of the fundraiser was important to her because she knows how crucial it is and how difficult it can be to find adequate childcare. As a mom of two who juggles working full-time, she understands the need for parents to have a safe and reliable place to send their children. Equally as important to her was raising funds for the Team Member Assistance Fund. She sees it as a vital resource for staff to use during unforeseen financial hardships. “Whether you’ve encountered such difficulties or know someone who has, this fund serves as a crucial support for the Bayhealth family,” said Brown. “It demonstrates the dedication to our team’s welfare by ensuring n
