NACPM is honored and thrilled to join Black Women for Wellness in cosponsoring this webinar and to hear from founders and respected Elders in the Reproductive Justice movement. This webinar is a pre-conference offering of Black Women for Wellness’ 19th Annual Reproductive Justice Conference to be held virtually this year on Saturday, October 9th, and the ninth offering in NACPM’s webinar series, Equity, Race and Access to Midwifery
Since 1973 Black Women for Wellness has been committed to the health and well-being of Black women and girls through health education, empowerment and advocacy. Mothers of Reproductive Justice, Loretta J. Ross, Dr. Dázon Dizon Diallo, and Dr. Toni Bond will share the history of the reproductive justice movement, stressing the importance of why this history must be known to midwives. Too often midwives use the term Reproductive Justice with little to no understanding of its history, its foundation in human rights, and its power. It is our hope that midwives will learn how to incorporate a true understanding of this framework through lessons learned from this history into midwifery advocacy and practice and have a chance to examine the racial and social justice elements of the reproductive justice movement as a critical lens for midwifery.
