Pollinator gardens are a wonderful way to help bees! Come see us for lots of choices when considering a pollinator garden!
Bumble bees are key pollinators 🐝 They perform buzz pollination which vibrates flowers until they release pollen.🌻
Bees and other pollinators are in trouble around the world. The National Park Service reports that pollinators are declining due mainly to habitat loss, competition from invasive species, pesticides, climate change and disease.
What can we do to help our pollinators? A huge step is to plant a pollinator garden, especially one featuring plants native to Delaware.

Let’s talk about lilacs!
Lilacs are members of the olive family (Olacae), which include jasmines (Jasminum spp.), forsythias (Forsythia spp.), fringe trees (Chionanthus spp.), and osmanthus (Osmanthus spp.). With their enchanting fragrant blooms in the late spring and early summer, lilacs have been treasured for centuries in their native Europe and Asia. Upon arrival to America, lilacs brought memories and fragrances of home to the European settlers. But, as time passed, their popularity decreased due to susceptibility to pests and diseases and their short bloom season.
Fortunately, breeders have improved lilac cultivars making them more adaptable for different garden types across various regions of North America.
Proper siting and pruning of lilacs, full sun light (a minimum of eight hours a day) and humus-rich, well-draining soil will help ensure lilac health and beauty.

Try raising your mower deck before you start mowing this year. Having taller grass with deeper roots blocks out w**ds naturally. Adding a mulching blade to your mower chops up your grass and leaves into smaller pieces so you can leave them on the lawn, also known as grasscycling!
"Grasscycling" refers to the practice of leaving grass clippings on the lawn after mowing instead of collecting and bagging them. This allows the clippings to naturally decompose, returning nutrients to the soil and acting as a natural fertilizer for the grass. The decomposition of clippings contributes organic matter to the soil, enhancing its structure and water retention capabilities, ultimately promoting a healthier lawn. Additionally, grass clippings can act as a natural mulch, helping retain soil moisture and reducing the need for extra watering, supporting water conservation. Grasscycling not only saves time and effort by eliminating the need to bag and dispose of clippings but also contributes to environmentally friendly waste management practices by reducing green waste in landfills.

Did you know that the beautiful blooms of the Native Eastern Redbud Tree are edible? Besides adding gorgeous color to food, redbud blossoms have an interesting flavor that starts out with a green bean-like taste and then develops a pleasantly sour aftertaste. They are fantastic raw on salads, but can also be pickled, added to sorbets, and are even good in muffins and baked goods.
