Shout out to fellow photographer David Koster for spotting an article in a local Sussex County ,DE magazine that features a photograph of our grandson Wyatt and his 2nd place junior student entry in last seasons Prime Hook Wildlife refuge photo contest. Great job Wyatt.
Thinking of the upcoming NASCAR race at Dover I dug deep into the archives and found a photo page I made of the Mason Dixon 500 race in June of 1972 at Dover Downs. Bobby Allison and Richard Petty battled it out with Allison the victor. Much more exciting than today in my opinion/
One thing is for sure, the USVI's give anyone who like to take photographs plenty of opportunities if you have a little patience
(a zoom lens helps) but is not a must. Around our West End of St. Croix condo grounds and from our gallery I captured some hummers, banana quits and egrets. Also spotted a juvenile American Kestrel at a sugar mill. Really fun to watch
Now that the Movie Oppenheimer has swept the Academy Awards I wonder how many know that he,Robert Oppenheimer spent much of his later life ( I have read) at a property he purchased on St. John,USVI. While the original cabin he built is gone a later structure still stands on Oppenheimer Beach, and there are only parking for 3 cars. The property was left to the people of St. John and can be rented for events, etc. The beach is secluded which is why he selected the spot and beautiful and more than likely you will be the only ones there.
While on St. Croix one afternoon I decided to drive out to the Hams Bluff lighthouse for some photos. Within about 1/4 mile of the end of the road about 20 feral goats jumped out of the bush and headed down the road toward the entrance of the old Coast Guard station where they took a left and headed along the fence to an opening where they stopped. What I witnessed and photographed after that I am not sure anyone else has ever done(at least photographed) . I really couldn't believe what I was about to see, thank god I had my camera and a long lens. The photos will tell the story as to what happened next. Feral mountain goats on a Caribbean Island.
One of the photographic perks of living on a tropical Island is the year round availability and abundance of color. While on St Croix one winter I decided to photograph ta variety of the flora that I saw and make it into a poster which I used in a small way to contribute to a few of the Islands non profits. While the snow was falling in Delaware where I lived much of the year I had a rainbow of color to enjoy and photograph all winter long while on St Croix.
What an interesting experience being able to get up close and personal and photograph the gluing together( yes glue) of the now Senator Roth bridge over the C&D canal. t took about 5 years to complete and the pre fab bridge sections(shown) were barged up the canal and off loaded until needed. This photo shows the almost completed North bound side
How proud to watch your almost 9 yr old grandson pitch in his second Felton Little League game. Not only pitched a good few innings but got a hit and threw out a base runner at first after fielding a grounder while playing second. He did much better than I did 60 years ago while attempting to play.
Leave it to the mind and determination of an 8 year old who wants to take some bird photographs but needs a blind to shoot from. Add one card board box, crayons and a winter coat( 38 outside) and heres what you get..
So a few months ago I saw there was a Calendar contest sponsored by the National El Camino Owners Assoc. and I had what I thought was a pretty nice photo I took of my 87 Caballero (GMC's version of the El Camino) in a corn field that Middletown Farmer Larry Jester was combining. So on a whim I entered and to my complete surprise it was chosen to appear in the 2023 NECOA Winner's Circle Calendar as one of "The Best of the Best" as voted by the Assoc.'s members. It's a driver and I work it hard and thoroughly enjoy driving it around the State of Delaware.
So proud to see our Grandson Wyatt right up there with the adults proudly displaying his winning entry in the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge photo contest a couple weeks ago. What a great learning process while getting out and enjoying nature and capturing Delaware's natural beauty
Very surprised and Proud of my Grandson Wyatt who won 1st 🥇 2nd 🥈 and 3rd 🥉 and 2 honorable mentions in the Prime Hook Photo contest!!! Junior category up to 12 years old!
What a great experience and learning process
Joe Allmond from the Memories of Newark Delaware just posted a photo from the 1978 UD Yearbook showing 6 photographers shooting a UD football game, on on bottom right with the Sunday Bulletin Sports shirt on with my 2 Nikons of course shooting Kodak B&W Tri X film
Tonights Harvest Moon over Papen Farms, Dover,DE
Decided to support the Taylors Bridge School House 1st annual car show and cruise up Rt 9 with my 87 Caballero. Met some nice people and saw a few from our days living in Townsend, nearby.
No trophies but proud to show off my Cab never the less.
Very excited to be having the PGA 2022 BMW championship tour take place at Delaware's Wilmington Country Club Aug.16-21.
I made this aerial of the Clubs courses back in May while photographing a nearby estate.
End of the Day...End of the Year... West End....St. Croix.....USVI
Been a number a years since I shot any Basketball action, probably Elena Delle Donne at U.D. Last wee received an assignment to photograph the Delaware BlueCoats coach and G.M.s and pulled out the action gear and made a few shots.
After the recent passing of former Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner I remembered photographing her for a cover of the ,I think, Delaware State Chamber publication, in her new Plymonth Prowler in front of Leg. Hall in Dover, in 2001. She was very proud of that car.
How time does fly by. 50 years ago last week in 1971 I made the Christiana High "Viking Voice" at the ripe old age of 16 while well on my way and already paying taxes on my career as a photographer, and can honestly say I have enjoyed 95% of it and would do it all over again.
Just before the Harvest moon rose last week I had a chance to take a few shots of my 87 Caballero while on a photo assignment on a farm near Middletown,Delaware. What a joy to own and drive
Always wanted to photograph a harvest moon associated with farming. a night Larry Jester of L&L Farms near Townsend was combing corn and I was there just at the right time, Finally.
I would like to congratulate my 7 year old grandson Wyatt Humphreys for taking the winning photograph in the 13 & under age group "Bird" category, for the ARCE photo contest to promote the beauty of the Woodland Beach Wildlife and surrounding areas. He took the image of a Blue Grosbeak at the from atop the observation tower off Rt.9 with a Canon Rebel and 100-400mm Canon zoom.

When I saw the date I posted on this photograph I made back in July of 1971 I said to myself, damn I've been taking photographs for a long time, and enjoyed almost every minute, should have been a solphmore at Christiana when taking photographs for the Newark Weekly Post, This was at the field by Holy Angels
Up and coming Kent County photographer 7 yr. old Wyatt Humphreys was spotted on North Bowers Beach today working on his wildlife photography. While working as his assistant I got to carry the camera , 100-400 mm lens and tripod throughout the trip, not a lot of action but we had fun
Old tractors never die, they just get recycled like this old international M, near Wyoming,DE
Using my one man blind and getting up before daybreak to get into position was what made capturing this baby wood duck preparing to descend from its nesting box a reality. With its mother swimming below encouraging the jump it paused, almost posed , just long enough to make the photograph. Using a Canon 100-400 zoom with a 2 x tele extender made the shot possible. The decision to convert to B&W was just personal
My grandson Wyatt asked me to set up my camo blind and camera and tripod so he could try his hand at making some bird photos. here's his first, a purple finch at the feeder
