Please help us in breaking the stigma for Mother's (and, yes, fathers too). Did you know the #1 complication of childbirth is Postpartum Depression and Anxiety.
It's not easy to be a mother. And it's certainly not easy doing it alone. Please reach out if needed and we can help provide the resources that can help.
Thank you Climb Out of the Darkness DuPage for sharing this video, and for Baby Dove for creating this Real Raw Video of Motherhood for Postpartum Support International! Stop the stigma!

Great tips on how to manage Holiday stress.
Nearly two in five adults who experience during the season say they use negative coping mechanisms such as isolating themselves, overeating or restricting their diets, or relying on substances like alcohol or ni****ne to feel better. These actions donβt help and often make us feel worse.
Here are some healthy ways to handle stressors this time of year: https://at.apa.org/fdv

You are Not Alone. You are Not to Blame!
Pregnancy can be a time of joy β and stress. Research suggests that about 1 in 7 pregnant women experience depression during pregnancy. Rates might be higher in low and middle-income countries. Depression, a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest, is the most common mood disorder in the general population. The condition occurs twice as often in women as in men, and the initial onset of depression peaks during a woman's reproductive years.

This week May 1-7 is Maternal Mental Health Week. We at SSTI are trained in PMADS, or postpartum mood and anxiety disorders, aka postpartum depression. We want you to know you are NOT alone! You do not need to suffer in silence! Pmads is very common during and after pregnancy--1 in 5 to 7 women in fact! Please read and share the info below to help us increase awareness. And please don't hesitate to reach out if you need.
Great resource to help us regulate our emotions.
Stop for a second. Pause. Notice what you feel.
Name this feeling. Many of us feel more than one emotion at a time, so donβt hesitate to identify multiple emotions you might be feeling. Also, something to note is usually a strong emotion that hides behind others is fear.
Accept the emotion. Instead of shaming or criticizing yourself for being emotional, recognize that what you are feeling is valid and human. Offer self-compassion.
Make a choice about how to respond. It is difficult to control our emotions as they come up but we can control how we respond to this emotion. Once we understand this, it can be a powerful way to minimize unpleasant emotions.
The steps above are an exercise to regulate our emotions. The next time you feel unpleasant emotions, try to follow these steps and see how you feel. I hope this helps!
Reposting an older post of mine today because we can all use it as a reminder every now and then. What usually helps you regulate your emotions?
Take care of your mind and body. Love, Nawal β₯οΈ
