Chronic Kidney Disease-What does it look like on ultrasound? 🫘 Below is a video clip of a cat our team performed an abdominal ultrasound on. This patient's prior lab work indicated possible chronic kidney disease per the referring veterinarian. While ultrasound and lab work don't always correlate perfectly, our radiologist was able to compare the patient's history with the images obtained during the exam and confirmed there were chronic degenerative kidney changes. The kidneys appeared irregular in shape and size as well as having poor corticomedullary distinction, which means there is a lack of definition and detail between the normal kidney structures. Kidney disease can be a difficult disease to manage. We see cats with renal disease often and are able to get owners diagnostic images to then implement a treatment plan moving forward with their vet to keep their feline friend as healthy as possible, for as long as possible. 😺❤️ #diagnosticimaging #veterinaryultrasound #vetmed #chronickidneydiease #renalcats

"Why does my pet have to be shaved for their ultrasound?" When your pet requires our services, we will shave the chest area for an echocardiogram and the abdomen for an abdominal ultrasound. The ultrasound probe will get the clearest images when it is placed directed onto the pet's skin versus the hair. We use a water based ultrasound gel and isopropyl alcohol to keep the skin wet. This also allows sound waves to travel better, which will help obtain higher quality images. The clippers we use at our outpatient imaging facilities are quiet and most pets do not react to being shaved, just may feel a little ticklish if they aren't used to being groomed! Check out our website for more information on our services or give us a call to schedule your pet's abdominal ultrasound or echocardiogram! 4pawsimaging.net 630-746-1382 #vetmed #vetultrasound #petsofchicagoland #chicagopets

Below is a video from a patient we performed an abdominal ultrasound on at our Downers Grove facility. This patient came to us with a history of a distended abdomen, however the patient's lab work was normal. During our ultrasound, our certified sonographers were concerned with a mass on the spleen. The owners opted to utilize our STAT results option and had results back within 2-4 hours. The board certified radiologist reported that this was concerning for malignant neoplasia and due to the free fluid present, surgical exploration was one recommendation given. Due to our close relationship with many local general practice clinics and emergency facilities, we were able to get this patient sent over the same day to a local facility for surgical consultation. Call us today to schedule your same day or next day ultrasound. 630-746-1382 #veterinarymedicine #petsofchicagoland #veterinaryultrasound

To continue the conversation about foreign body cases from earlier this week, here is Obi's Story❤️🐶🩺 Obi is a sweet American Staffordshire Terrier puppy that presented to us last week for an abdominal ultrasound for continued vomiting despite receiving fluids and medication at his referring veterinarian's office. His owner was wanting to get him seen for an abdominal ultrasound quickly and despite calling multiple facilities, no one was able to get her an appointment until the following week, or the prices were unaffordable for the just an ultrasound. That's when she called us. We were able to get Obi in for an ultrasound the same day! One of our certified sonographers completed the scan and was suspicious that the referring veterinarian's preliminary diagnosis was correct-foreign material in the gastrointestinal tract. After discussing the options with Obi's mom, she decided to STAT the results from our Board Certified Radiologist. The report was back to the referring veterinarian's office within only a few hours and Obi was able to receive the lifesaving care he needed quickly. Within 24 hours of his ultrasound, Obi had completed his foreign body surgery and was on the road to recovery! Check out the video below showing Obi and his unfortunate choice of a snack....a toy! We were thankful Obi made a great recovery and that we were able to be apart of his care team. When your pet needs an ultrasound, we are proud to offer ease of scheduling with flexible appointment options as well as affordable prices without paying emergency room fees and additional expenses. 630-746-1382 4pawsimaging.net #veterinarymedicine #ultrasound #petparents #dogsofchicago

Radiographs vs Ultrasound? Many pet parents will wonder why their veterinarian may recommend an ultrasound after already performing radiographs, aka x-rays. Radiographs are a great diagnostic tool. However, they are not always able to visualize all pathology. Recently we saw a patient who had presented to their referring veterinarian's office for vomiting and decreased appetite. The clinic performed radiographs and sent these images out for radiologist interpretation. However, when the radiologist reported no abnormalities seen within the gastrointestinal tract, we were called out to perform an abdominal ultrasound. We completed a comprehensive abdominal ultrasound and were able to visualize the GI tract in it's entirety. When we sent our images to our board certified radiologist for STAT results, they determined this patient had a foreign body obstruction within the pyloroduodenal junction, as well as foreign material within the small intestine. This is seen on the video clip below as a bright white, thin structure stretching throughout the contents of the duodenum. The referring veterinarian was able to get this patient into emergent surgery and on the road to recovery within hours due to the quick report turnaround time. #veterinaryultrasound #ultrasound #sonography #veterinarymedicine

Did you know we offer Electrocardiogram (ECG) services in addition to our Echocardiograms? What's the difference between an ECG and Echo?🐶🐱 Electrocardiograms look at the electrical conduction and activity of the pet's heart. This is done by placing leads on the patient and our system creates a recording. This can prove to be helpful in cases where the animal may have an arrythmia, or irregular heartbeat. Echocardiograms are ultrasounds of the heart. They allow us to look at the multiple heart chambers, valves, arteries and veins. This provides us a visual of the heart and it's function. We utilize doppler imaging to measure and observe changes in blood flow. Together, these tools can help provide a larger overview of the heart function. Our board certified Cardiologists will then analyze both exams and provide comprehensive, detailed reports to aid in the referring veterinarian's management of the pet's condition. Below is an example of an ECG and Echo performed by one of our certified sonographers. The referring veterinarian was concerned with an arrythmia prior to anesthesia in this patient. We performed the ECG and Echo at our Downers Grove outpatient center, and the veterinarian had the reports back within 24 hours. We offer Cardiac Packages at our outpatient centers, intended to save pet owners money when needing radiograph interpretations, an ECG and an Echo for their beloved pet. #veterinaryultrasound #vetmed #ECG #echocardiogram #sonography
