Parole Process for Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Cubans, and Haitians.
Since March 6, 2023, citizens of these countries that have a financial supporter in the United States can seek to be admitted into the USA through parole for a period of up to two years. During this time, parolees may receive a work permit.
Only applies to immigrants currently outside of the United States.

What is Parole in Immigration?
A temporary form of legally entering the United States without a visa and for humanitarian reasons.
Examples of reasons for parole:
- War in your home country
- Witness in a criminal case
- Medical treatment
- Asylum
- TPS
Usually given for up to a year with the possibility of extension.
You can apply online through the USCIS website or with CBP at the border.
If you qualify for some form of immigration relief, you may apply during that time inside the US.

U Visa
Applies to undocumented people that are victims of a crime and assist the police in an investigation where they suffered:
- Substantial physical or emotional abuse;
- a qualifying crime;
And
- they obtain a U Visa certification from the police for that crime
*3 years after approval of the U Visa, you will be able to apply for a green card and 5 years after that you will be able to apply for citizenship.
What are the Qualifying Crimes?
Serious crimes such as:
Domestic abuse, aggravated assault, tape, torture, sexual assault, taken as a hostage, kidnapping, slavery, in**st, homicide, prostitution, and other similar crimes.
Cancellation of Removal
Applies to undocumented and legal permanent residents that have:
1. Lived in the US continuously for 7-10 years;
2. Good moral character throughout that period of time;
3. A child, parent, or spouse that is a citizen or permanent resident that will suffer if you are deported.
*During the process you can obtain a work permit and once you win your case you may apply for permanent residence/green card.
What is Asylum?
- A legal protection for people who have suffered persecution in their native country. - For people who are present in the USA or seeking asylum at the o border. - for one of the following reasons: (1) race (2) nationality (3) religion (4) political opinion (5) being part of a particular social group.
- Asylum can be affirmative or defensive.
Who social groups qualify for asylum?
- sexual orientation
- gender
- family of opposers
- social classes
- occupation groups
- tribes or ethnic groups
What is the difference between affirmative and defensive asylum?
- defensive asylum is filed for those currently in deportation proceedings and in court.
- affirmative asylum is for those who aren’t currently I. deportation proceedings and should file at the asylum office instead.
