This past week was unbelievably busy, and I never got a chance to post on Facebook that Wednesday, July 31, was the 10th anniversary of opening my shop. I celebrated the occasion with my wonderful landlords, Skip and Janine, with a dinner at La Sponda in Downingtown. They are the best landlords and friends that anyone could wish for. I am so thankful for the many loyal clients who have made my business a success over the past ten years. I truly appreciate the wonderful friendships that I have gained over the 20 years that I have worked in this field, and especially the last 10 that I've had my own shop. I am grateful to all those who have chosen me as their barber. Thank you!

Just a reminder to my loyal clients: Lately, I have been booking about a week in advance. As a result, I'm rarely able to accommodate requests for same-day appointments. You are welcome to ask, but I'm usually booked and not available. For me, it's a plus to be booked in advance, but I realize that for many of you who were used to getting last-minute appointments, it is a disappointment. I encourage you to plan ahead for your haircuts. Also, I am trying to invest in some self-care by taking off extra days this summer. So my hours will be more limited than usual. In the last few months, business has been growing very fast, and I'm frequenty booked up to a week in advance. I encourage everyone to plan ahead, as I am rarely able to accommodate last-minute requests for appointments. Thank you for understanding.

Recently, a traditional men's barbershop in the area has reconfigured its approach to men's haircuts. As a result, I'm fully booked at the moment, and I'm fully booked in advance for several days. Please plan several days in advance for your haircut! At my shop, I hope you will enjoy the hot lather neck shave followed by the hot towel. Last week I received notification that my business has been voted a "Neighborhood Fave" on NextDoor. Thank you to all who voted for my business.

I am so grateful for the many folks who are clients at my barber shop, both long-time clients and new clients. Thank you! Lately I have been booked several days in advance. It's great to be fully booked, but it has been surprising for long-time clients who were used to getting same-day appointments when they texted or called. I do my best to accommodate your requests, but it would be best to book in advance these days.

Also, I will be closed for vacation, July 31-August 6. Please plan ahead.

The barbershop will be closed Saturday, July 1 through Wednesday, July 5.

I'll be taking some vacation time from the shop soon. I will be closed on Saturday, January 28, but open January 30. Then I will be closed from January 31 through February 9.

Here is the latest update on the closure of Route 322 from Caln Township. Businesses affected have been told that our clients will have access to our business locations. However, it will require those traveling west on Route 322 to detour around the closure. Stayed tuned for future developments!

Just a heads-up to my clients. We're not sure when this closure will occur, but it will involve a detour for all clients coming from the Downingtown/Exton/West Chester area. Access will be available to my shop, but you will need to detour if your are east of the Bypass.

🚧 East Brandywine Township Roadwork Update 🚧

Thank you to the many local business owners and residents who have reached out with concerns about a planned two-week closure of Horseshoe Pike (Route 322) between Hopewell Road in East Brandywine and Edges Mill Road in Caln Township.

My staff, Senator Katie Muth's staff, and Senator Carolyn Comitta's staff spoke with Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) on Tuesday, and we wanted to share some important updates from our conversation.

ℹ The reason for the road closure is to complete a sanitary sewer line installation for the new 400-unit Fernmoor Homes development on Horseshoe Pike in Caln Township, just over the township line from East Brandywine.

❓ Everyone’s first question: Why a full road closure? Couldn't they do a single lane closure, or just work at night?

The exact location of the work is at a point on 322 where the road narrows a bit, with a guiderail on either side. PennDOT explained that the developer’s work involves a jack-and-bore operation under an existing culvert that carries a stream across the road. The road requires extensive excavation to get the line under the culvert, with large, open pits on either side of the culvert. This excavation requires the use of large equipment that will occupy much of the roadway space, which precludes even allowing a single lane of traffic to safely get by in a typical work zone pattern. PennDOT considered multiple options and determined that a full closure is unfortunately the only feasible solution.

📅 No date has been set for the closure. There is still utility work that needs to take place before the sewer line installation can begin, and that preliminary work has not been scheduled yet.
While PennDOT has approved a closure and a detour route, they have not determined a start date.

PennDOT is considering the impacts on local businesses, school buses, emergency services, residents, and commuters.

🚦 When the closure does happen, PennDOT has committed to working with the developer and the township to ensure that signs indicate that the road is OPEN from Hopewell Road all the way through to all East Brandywine Township businesses. The section of road that will be impassable is east/south of the entrance to the new community.

Again, no date has been set for the detour and construction to begin, but it will not happen in December, and the detour will not be permitted during the winter months. PennDOT will provide as much advance notice as possible once a date has been set.

My staff and I will continue to advocate for the interests of all affected businesses and residents, and we will share any information as we receive it.

Just a reminder that the weeks before Christmas are booked well in advance. If you need to get a haircut before Christmas, it would be best to book now. I will have only very limited hours between Christmas and New Year's Day. Also I will closed the first week of February.

At some point, Route 322 will be closed to through traffic from Hopewell/Bondsville Roads down to the bypass. The exact dates have not been published, but it will be a two-week total shutdown of the roadway. It appears that access to residences and businesses will be maintained. However, you may need to use a detour to get to my shop. I apologize in advance for the inconvenience.

In my opinion this total closure of the main route through our township is unacceptable. I do encourage you to write to your elected officials to register your opposition to closing Route 322 for two weeks. It is the major thoroughfare in our region, and its closure will have devasting effects on traffic in our area. I see no reason for a complete closure of a highway that will disproportionately affect residents of East Brandywine and West Brandywine Township residents for the benefit of a development in Caln Township. Consider contacting your state representatives, state Senators, and the Governor. I also encourage you to write to your local township supervisors and township managers.

We've been informed by PENNDOT that 322 (Horseshoe Pike) will be a single lane next week as work crews install a storm sewer. The lane closure will impact the area from N. Old Horseshoe Pike to S. Old Horseshoe Pike (across from the Fernmoor Homes development) between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on 08/22/2022 through 09/01/2022. Allow extra time if you're traveling on 322.
