We had an AMAZING staff holiday party!! 🎄🎄Our sunshine committee sure knows how to throw a good party!!
Our Student Body Officers had the opportunity to attend a leadership conference at BYU with Mrs Asay. They won one of the three awards at the conference for talking with other councils and then getting a sticker from them. When asked how they did that with one of the smallest number of representatives, they said “that we stayed together as a team and worked together as a team.” Lizzie Cole said “It was a really fun experience! There were four speakers that taught us how to be the best leaders we can be. They spoke about how leaders like us need to try to help people realize just how special and important they are. It is also our responsibility to make sure people feel welcome and like they belong. It was a great experience and we are grateful we got to go!”
Happy Halloween from Draper Elementary!
Join us for our Halloween Parade! 👻🎃💀 A reminder that masks and costumes with weapons of any kind even if they are facsimiles are not allowed.
Parade is at 9:30. Swipe to see the parade route. Parents will need to stay outside for the parade. We also need you to stay for the entire parade. It is disruptive to other parents and students participating in the parade if you leave the route while the parade is still passing by you.

Hi! My name is Rachel Butterfield. I am the new Visual Arts BTS teacher this year. I am so excited to bring visual arts back to Draper Elementary. This is my 3rd year teaching art and I am so excited to share my passion for creativity with your amazing students! I was born and raised in Utah and love it here. From the mountains to the lakes I love this beautiful state. I’ve been married for 15 years and have 3 wonderful children, ages 11, 9 and 7, who attend Sunrise elementary. I love to travel, go swimming, listen to music and gather with friends and family. I believe that every child has a unique way of viewing the world and I love to see the amazing things they come up with!
If you ever have any extra art supplies lying around your house that are no longer needed I’m always taking donations 🙂
Back to School night Tuesday August 29th from 6:00-7:30p.m. Come meet with your child's teacher to learn what will be going on in their classroom this year.
We had a great first week of school last week!! It’s going to be an amazing year!
My name is Connor Kuebler and I am so excited to be one of the new 5th grade teachers here at Draper! I am originally from upstate New York, where I taught both 6th and 3rd grade. I’m stoked to be here in Utah where I can climb, hike, and really make the most of my favorite hobbies. I can’t wait to meet everyone and become part of this community!
My name is Lara McCoy and I am so excited to be a 2nd Grade teacher at Draper Elementary!
My husband and I have three children and a dog. We love to spend time playing
in the outdoors. I earned a bachelor’s degree from Utah State University and a
master’s degree in Teaching Elementary Education from Western Governors
University. I have worked in Canyons District the past four years. I am looking
forward to my first year at Draper Elementary and getting to know the 2nd
graders. We are going to have so much fun learning together!
Hello! My name is Mrs. Merkley and I am thrilled to be the new Resource Teacher at Draper Elementary. I am a proud mother of four and my youngest is a senior this year at Corner Canyon. We moved to the area last June from Wisconsin to be closer to family. I started my teaching career years ago as a physical education teacher in Southern California. After taking time off to raise my kids I got back into education when we moved to Wisconsin. I have loved the Chinese culture ever since my parents visited when I was in elementary school. My daughter went with her school orchestra group in 2018. Shortly after I began teaching English to children all over China via Zoom. I love sports, being outdoors, and chips and salsa! It’s going to be a great year!!
Welcome Ms Wilde! She will be working with Mrs Call in the library. My name is Melanie Wilde. I grew up not far from Draper, in Cottonwood Heights. I love being outside, arranging flowers, exercising, and traveling with my husband and kids and our little dog, when he can come along. I have four kids that are in Canyons School District schools, and all of them are in the DLI program for Spanish. I am really excited to work in the library. I love books, especially children's books, and I can't wait to see what the students at Draper Elementary are interested in learning and dreaming about.
We are so excited to welcome Xiong Laoshi as our 2nd grade Chinese teacher! I have been teaching Chinese for 4 years, 2 years in Australia and 2 years in the UK. I love hiking and travelling. I have traveled around China, been to 30 provinces in China, and traveled to over 10 countries, and now I am excited to come to the United States to work and live!
We are so excited to welcome Mrs Burri as a new 5th grade teacher at our school! Hi! My name is Mrs. Burri! I am so excited to be a part of Draper Elementary this year!
I have always loved school and grew up wanting to become a teacher one day… the time has finally come! I just got married last year to my high school sweetheart and we have 2 family dogs that run around our house constantly! Majority of my time outside of work is spent with my husband and my younger sister. We call ourselves the “Girlies” and they are my BFFs! We love any kind of sport and anything that is outdoors! Our favorite summer activity together is paddleboarding and playing mermaids! 🧜🏼♀️
Again, I am so so excited to be at Draper Elementary and cannot wait to get to know all of you!😊

On Thursday, schools will start two hours later than the regular bell schedule.
This means that bus routes will be two hours later than the regularly scheduled time. In addition, and as a result of the delayed start, morning sessions of preschool and kindergarten are cancelled.
Morning classes at the Canyons Technical Education Center also are cancelled.
Afternoon sessions of preschool and kindergarten, as well as CTEC classes, will be held as usual and all schools will end at their regular time.
Severe winter weather is prompting Canyons District to make the decision to pivot to remote learning on Wednesday, Feb. 22. While all schools will be closed for the day, students are asked to continue learning via technology. Students also may be assigned other learning opportunities by their teachers. Instructions about the day’s remote-learning activities will be sent to families by schools and individual teachers.
Spirit Night! Make sure you show the flyer!
Happy Lunar New Year! Check out our website (link in bio) for information on how our dual immersion classes will be celebrating!
