Happy Holidays to everyone and I hope that you are all enjoying some rest over this Thanksgiving weekend. I wanted to ask for your help to support work I have been involved with the last two years in Ethiopia. I have been working with a breast surgeon colleague, Dr. Lesley Taylor, to advance breast cancer care in Ethiopia. Important advances have been made to train professionals there to improve breast cancer screening and treatment. We also are launching next week a two day training to prepare 30 oncology nurses to be involved in community outreach to villages in Ethiopia to increase early detection, treatment and supportive care which includes ELNEC modules for pain and symptom management. ELNEC also is sponsoring 3 Masters Degree nursing students to conduct their thesis research in breast cancer.

One of the other major accomplishments is that the cancer center we have been working with has received its first radiation machine. We are now raising funds to bring 4 clinicians from the Ethiopia cancer center to the US to receive training in how to do the radiation treatment.

I would greatly appreciate any support you can provide and if you can share this announcement with friends and colleagues who may be interested in supporting this effort. These clinicians in Ethiopia are amazing and I feel that we are at a critical point of being able to truly make a difference in care. It will be a great Christmas gift to support them in this work.
