There's something profoundly comforting about returning home. Whether it's the end of a long day or after years away, 'getting back home' represents a return to where we feel most loved, most secure, and most at peace. It's not just about the physical space; it's about reconnecting with our roots and rekindling the memories that shape who we are.
🌟 Home is where we laugh, where we find comfort, and where we make lifelong memories. It's our sanctuary from the chaos of the outside world, a place where we can truly be ourselves.
As we step through our front door, let’s appreciate the familiar sights, sounds, and smells that welcome us back, reminding us of who we are and who we love. Let’s cherish the joy of getting back home, where our heart resides, and where every corner holds a cherished memory.
🔑💭 Put in the comments, what does “Getting Back Home” mean to you?

So excited to be named one of the best residential architects in Ohio by the Home Builder Digest! 🏡
The Best Residential Architects in Ohio Regarded as one of the best states to live in, Ohio is noted for its picturesque, tiny towns; lovely fall foliage; and stunning natural wonders such as its waterfalls, rivers, and over a hundred natural lakes. It offers its residents a relatively low cost of living and several growing cities that at...
🏡Home Matters: Turn ordinary into EXTRAORDINARY!
The real estate market in Central Ohio is still a highly active seller’s market with very little inventory, making it extremely challenging to find that perfect home before it goes in contract.
Talk to a REALTOR® about what your home is worth and what it would likely cost you to purchase the home you are looking for. Meet with an architect to walk through your home with you to talk about what you like and what doesn’t work. Meet with a contractor to talk with them about your ideas and get ballpark pricing. Maybe changing what you don’t like about your home is an easier fix than you thought.
I have also had clients hire me to walk through homes with them along with their REALTOR®. Homes that don’t function really well or need some TLC tend to spend a little more time on the market, so we can walk through them with you to talk about what renovations could be completed in the home to make it your dream home.
Another option is to stage your home as if you are going to sell it. I don't mean de-personalize the spaces, as that is what makes your home yours, but take the time to purge and get rid of clutter. Eliminating stuff will reduce your stress, along with making the spaces feel larger. Complete your honey-do list, along with repairing holes, scratches, chips, etc. Updating paint colors will freshen up your home, and lighter colors will also make spaces feel larger. Rearranging your furniture can also make a room feel larger and will refresh the space. These things will make you love your home more than you already do.
I hope these tips bring more calm and relaxation to your home, allowing for more joy and happiness in your life.

🏠Home Matters: Homes shape lives
We all have big goals we want to achieve. We have goals for our career, relationships, health, and finances, though what are your plans for your home?
I am sure you think about things that you like and dislike in your home often, though have you ever made a list of the things you would want to change in your home?
Did you know that goals are 42% more likely to be achieved if written down? You can easily achieve this in one weekend if you carve out some time to think about your home, how it functions for your family, and the changes you would like to make to improve it. Here are five steps that will allow you to achieve this overwhelming task by Monday morning.
1. Write down the names of every room, even the closets in your home.
2. Next to each room, write down what you have in each room. And be honest with yourself, if your treadmill is sitting in your walk-in closet – even though you wish it wasn’t – you still need to write it down. You can’t make changes if you are ignoring the elephant in the room … or the treadmill in the room.
3. Write down how each room makes you feel and why it makes you feel that way.
-frustration because it is messy?
-joy because it’s a relaxing space?
-anxiety because it feels too small?
-calm because it’s clean and organized?
4. What do you wish you could change in each room? -size of the spaces
-the natural light
-the finishes (flooring, trim, cabinets, countertops)
-the furniture in the room?
5. Finally, write down how these updates would change how you use the space, how the space functions for your family, and how the spaces make you feel.
Think outside of the box – these goals will not only help you think about what you could achieve in your existing home but also what you would want in your dream home.

🏡Home Matters: Creating Space for More Memories🏡
Growing up, holidays were my favorite time of year. It was when my entire family got together, my parents, brother, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins…so many cousins and it was so much fun!
We loved spending that time together catching up and reminiscing. There was so much food in the kitchen and dining room, and I can still smell the apple pie baking in the oven.
As I became older and we continued to have family gatherings and celebrations, I realized it wasn’t just about the family, it was about the functionality of the space we gathered in, we weren’t separated into a bunch of closed-off rooms, it was like we were in a large reception hall.
The open space was plenty of room to allow for all of us to be together and be present with one another. We were able to eat together, hear each other’s stories, and play games together.
When I became an adult from the time I moved into my first home, I always made sure the space felt comfortable and inviting, and the space had an open feel where people could gather.
Our homes shape our lives, and I believe the space we live in is what creates the best memories no matter who is present.
I hope this holiday season you find those perfect spaces in your home for your family and friends to create wonderful memories that will last you a lifetime.

🏡Home Matters: 🏡Gratitude & Thanksgiving!
Many of those around me spend a lot of time in November reflecting on what they are thankful for and how to improve their state of gratitude.
As we look towards Thanksgiving and prepare our homes to entertain family and friends, I encourage you to think about your home and what small things you could do to improve how your home makes you feel.
Do you have a stack of papers and mail on your kitchen counter that causes you anxiety? Think about a place where you could relocate it, not only will it free up your counter space, it will also clear the stress it creates in your life. Maybe it is a storage room you have dreaded cleaning out and getting organized. Or maybe, it is looking through your clothes to clean up your dresser and closet to give away things that you no longer wear.
Instead of making January the month to set goals to get organized, what if you spend a few minutes each day in November looking through the things you are grateful for and gifting what no longer serves you to charity. Then you can start the holiday season in organized spaces that will bring your more peace and joy, along with one less New Year’s resolution.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

🏡Home Sweet Home🏡
Isn't this room dreamy?😴
When renovating homes, I often meet with empty-nesters that are weighing the decision between staying in the home where they have made a lifetime of memories or moving to a home that better fits their needs and will allow them to age in place.
With either decision, there are several factors that need to be considered to ensure the home will promote independence.
Following are 10 tips for making your home or your parent’s home a place that can be enjoyed for years to come.
📖Check out pages 14 & 15 of the October issue of Muirfield Village Living magazine to see the 10 Tips for making your home enjoyable (and functional!) for years to come.
I hope these tips provide helpful insight for how you or your parents can transform spaces within your home to align with the changing lifestyle of aging in place. So you can enjoy your home sweet home for many, many years ahead.

A couple years ago, I had the opportunity to not only design this incredible home, I was able to contribute as the contractor, along with completing all of the selections for the exterior materials and the interior design. It was such an amazing experience! These are just a few of the photographs. You can see more on our website, http://simplifiedarchitecture.com/portfolio/sycamores-on-the-scioto/

My favorite day of the week… Design Day! I absolutely love my job and helping people transform their home to align with their 21st century family, especially when it’s a really amazing home from the 1920’s. And who wouldn’t want to have a gorgeous old fireplace in the owner’s bathroom.
🏡Home Matters: Avoiding Back-to-School chaos🏡
I think we are welcoming the arrival of a typical school year and our children’s lives returning to normal.
Heidi Bolyard of Simplified Living Architecture offers some tips to avoid your home turning into a madhouse, and preparing for the successful year ahead.
STARTING THE DAY
*Have an organized bedroom
*Clean out dressers and closets and have clothes arranged appropriately
*Have a clean and organized bathroom
*Plan breakfast the night before
RETURNING HOME
*Add an organizational shelving to create functional storage
*Add a bench with hidden storage and coat hooks
*Have an area in the garage for sports equipment and shoes
We all need systems, rhythms, and patterns to follow to help us remain organized and prepare us for success, it’s no different for our kids.
