Sahana Muthappan - A huge shoutout to Sahana, who took the initiative to study 196-page USA Fencing Rule Book and passed an Online Exam just the night before the tournament! Demonstrating confidence throughout the tournament, Sahana refereed the Gold Medal bout! Your dedication and hard work truly paid off!

Inès Dehon - We're so proud of Inès, who came to the club without a parent for the first time, right after passing her state driving test and getting her Ohio driver's license! What an achievement, and thank you for being part of our event!

Terry Amrine - A BIG thank you to Terry, who brought his wealth of refing experience and armorer's skills to the table. Your expertise helped us run a smooth and successful tournament!

On Saturday, August 10th, our club proudly hosted the very first Adult Combined Mixed Saber tournament in Region II, and possibly even in the United States! 🇺🇸 This groundbreaking event brought together 13 saber fencers, ranging in age from 20 to 73!

We were excited to see six of these fencers compete for the very first time. The energy and camaraderie in the room were great, and most importantly, everyone had a fantastic time!

This tournament also served as a special fundraiser for our dear friend and Columbus Fencing & Fitness Alum, Denison University Women's Fencing Head Coach, Mr. Peter Grandbois. This October, Peter will be heading to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to represent Team USA at the 2024 Veteran's World Championships (Vet 60 Men’s Foil). 🇺🇸🤺

A huge congratulations to all the medalists and competitors for making this event a success! 🎉👏

USA Fencing National Championships & July Challenge (Summer Nationals) Highlights

Shout out to MATTHEW PALMA who not only fenced in multiple events, but also contributed throughout Summer Nationals as a referee. Being a ref is a tough gig of intense moments, where one faces both criticism and praise. We heard Matthew executed flawlessly, ultimately earning him the honor of refereeing the Div II Men’s Foil gold medal bout! Nice job Matt!

CONGRATULATIONS to Lynne Olson from Columbus Fencing & Fitness for her incredible achievement at the 2024 USA Fencing National Championships! Lynne secured a 6th place medal in the Vet 70 Women’s Saber event AND earned her E24 rating. We are immensely proud of her dedication and hard work. Way to go, Lynne! 🎉

Friday Movie Night at the Fencing Center - May 10, 2024

CF&F fencers were back in action this past weekend on the tournament circuits! 🤺🤺🤺

At the Gene Krebs Memorial Open in Oxford, Ohio:

Ihor Cherednichenko scored a bronze🥉medal and Ian Dunlap finished 8th in Senior Mixed Foil event. Haashir Idris also brought home a bronze🥉in the Senior Mixed Sabre event.

Meanwhile, just outside of Chicago at the Windy City ROC/RJCC, our mighty 💪women Foil and Sabre squads battled for points in their respective DIV1-A and Junior events:

DIVI-A saw Eva Bassik and Ashley Owen punching their Summer Nationals tickets, taking 5th and 11th places respectively for Foil and earning needed qualifying points. On the Sabre side, Inès Dehon also secured her DIVI-A ticket, earning points and finishing 9th. Anna Blake and Ella Polston fought valiantly coming in 13th and 15th in this challenging event.

In the Junior Woman’s Foil event, Eva earned some points and landed 5th, while Elise Lemasters earned points and finished 22nd. Our Sabre ladies all earned some Junior points too, landing in 5th (Inès), 13th (Anna), and 15th (Ella).

Some great results at the Bill Starr 4th Memorial RYC/RJCC in St. Louis on Saturday, April 13!

SPOTLIGHT on our HENDERSHOT brothers who took the Bronze in their respective Y14/Y10 Men’s Sabre events. CHARLIE and HENRY both medaled in Y12 Men’s Sabre, side-by-side with a Silver and Bronze respectively. Nice job Charlie and Henry – your hard work is paying off!

Also in Sabre - Gold went to our small, but mighty SAHANA MUTHAPPAN in Y14 Women’s Sabre and she stole the Silver in Y12 Women’s Saber - way to crush it! And kudos to BLAKE MILLER who scored a 7th place medal in Y14 Men’s Sabre.

Foil was also represented with ELISE LEMASTER taking a 7th place medal in her Junior Women’s Foil event.
