Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Morrisons classes met for a buddy interaction. Buddies were able to interview each other and learn commonalities and differences while practicing Second Step skills such as eye contact, active listening, voice volume and accepting differences. We can't wait to spend time with our buddies again soon!

5th graders studied their nervous system today by exploring response time of their reflexes in trying to catch a ruler dropped by their partner. We discussed how the brain sends a signal to the hand to close around the ruler.

The third, fourth and fifth graders - with Gerald the Giraffe in attendance - started doing some work on drumming. We learned or reviewed hand positions and playing technique and discovered complementary rhythms. It seems we may be able to add our drumming skills to some school appropriate popular songs...how exciting!

You’ll notice some changes happening on the grounds at Bryant!

We began work on grounds updates funded by a Sustainable Dubuque Grant through the City. We planted two new trees along Bryant St., a Yellowwood and a Tulip Poplar. These will both be large shade trees that will eventually provide afternoon shade to the building.

The first steps were taken to prepare space for an outdoor learning garden behind the mobile units. Cardboard was laid down as w**d suppression and then topped with mulch. The space will be ready for planting in the spring. We are working with Bryant staff to design a space where students can have hands-on experiences tied to standards about pollinators, life cycles, habitats, native prairies and much more!

Thank you to our Bryant family volunteers from Scouts Pack 20, Girl Scouts Troops 3869 and 3907 for all of your hard work. Please look for more volunteer work days in the spring if you would like to help!

Special thanks to the BFO for supporting this project.
Special thanks to Steve Pregler and Sara Carpenter for providing insight to tree selection, care, and maintenance.
Special thanks to Mr. Bl**er for collecting boxes for w**d suppression.

Wow... things were "popping" in first grade on Friday! Students received their November Rooted Box which contained foods to make popcorn mix! The students LOVED the mix! We have a feeling this rooted box could be this year's favorite! We are so thankful for Project Rooted, all the businesses and farms who donate their products, and all the hands that go into making this possible.

Today, fourth graders had their second meeting with Dr. Tim Hagen, our musician from the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra. We shared one of our pieces from the fall concert. We also learned about the role of the conductor and how he/she helps keep a group of musicians together, going the right tempo and playing the right volume. Some of us even got to conduct Dr. Hagen.
We are grateful for this opportunity!

5th Grade worked with Mrs. Hermsen on exploring the concept of writing code using a Lego activity. Completing the correct sequence required patience, clear communication and listening from both the programmer and the coder. After running through the steps, the team would "debug" their sequence as they discussed how to make directions clearer and more understandable.

Yesterday, the Bryant Bulldogs welcomed members of our local ballet company, the Dubuque Academy of Ballet, to perform Peter and the Wolf. It was such a great performance! We learned that it is okay to clap in the middle of a ballet and even yell Bravo! at the end if it's something you really like.
The Bulldogs were so kind and respectful during the performance. You could tell they are working on their concert etiquette skills.
Thank you to the Dubuque Arts Council for this opportunity!
