What a great way to end the year! Vatican Unveiled presented our charities the proceeds from this summers event. Both and received a check in the amount of $110,466 - close to a quarter of a million dollars raised from our sponsors and generous community!

The exhibit this summer included VIP Tours, dinners ,and seminars relating to the papal artifacts collection. The net proceeds were then divided equally to both non-profit organizations as an unrestricted gift so they could use it where the need is greatest.

We are getting ready for the weekend! Lots of moving, trouble shooting, and more moving. We even put Father Rich to work!

We are transforming over 23,000 square feet of the DECC - Duluth Entertainment Convention Center ballroom into a pop-up exhibit with over 200 rare artifacts from Popes, Saints—even Napoleon.

The latest artifact was just picked up by our curator, Father Richard Kunst, of St. James Parish Duluth. A papal bull from Pope Innocent II dating back to 1138.

This rare artifact will be on display during our exhibit being held at the DECC - Duluth Entertainment Convention Center August 19-21. Tickets on sale at www.vaticanunveiled.com.

Father Richard Kunst of the Diocese of Duluth inspects a papal bull Aug. 1 from Pope Innocent II dating back to 1138, which he will display with more than 300 other items Aug. 19-21 at the DECC - Duluth Entertainment Convention Center at an event called “Vatican Unveiled: An Exploration of Legacies.” He acquired the papal bull several months ago and brought it to the Midwest Art Conservation Center in Minneapolis, where Dianna Clise, second from left, senior paper conservator, used a special process to unfold the document, which was written on parchment. “This is a very high-end papal document,” said Father Kunst, who claims to have the largest collection of papal artifacts outside of Rome. “It’s worth a lot — thousands (of dollars).” Tickets can be purchased in advance online or at the door. Question of the Day: How will the exhibit be set up and what will my experience be like?

Fun Fact: if you read every single word on the signing we are creating, it would take you about 2-3 hours to tour the space. We highly recommend going thru the space at your own pace, and you can go thru as many times as you would like, your ticket purchase is good for all day.

When you arrive at the DECC - Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, you will be directed to the ticket line and the security line. Once you enter the exhibit, you will see individual displays with artifacts and relics from various popes, saints and other notables. We will have stories about popes or maybe an even better story on how the artifact made it into the collection.

Due to COVID, we have planned for extra wide walkways and spread the exhibit throughout a 26,000 square foot ballroom. The added space is also beneficial for those traveling with groups, strollers or mobility devices.

The room will be lit like an exhibit space, with a soft warm glow, and spotlights will be on our highlights. We will also have areas for you to rest and reflect. Every artifact is going to be covered in a display case in order to keep them protected.

Be sure to go to one of the seminars during the day with Father Richard Kunst, the owner and curator of the collection. Seminars will be held at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. each day. He will share stories on select pieces of his collection and will give you time to ask questions directly to him. This is a first-come first-served seminar, with seating for 200 people.

We are working with Northern Acrylics Inc. to create the acrylic covers. These covers block out 98% of any UV rays that could damage the artifacts.

And our incredible volunteers have been busy creating the custom bases for the covers!

We are getting a lot of GREAT questions about the Vatican Unveiled Event.

Question: I'm not really a religious person, but it sounds like a really interesting event. Will I understand what is in the exhibit?

A: YES! This exhibit isn't necessarily for someone who is Catholic, or understands every piece of Catholic history. It's being designed for a greater audience to understand and appreciate--especially if you are a lover of history. Some of our artifacts are over 800 years old -- the fact that they are intact and we are able to validate historic events is remarkable.

Plus, we think our curator, Father Richard Kunst, is one of the most approachable and knowledgeable individuals around. He will be hosting seminars throughout the weekend so you can ask specific questions about the exhibit, the Catholic faith and anything in between. He is known for his trivia questions, one of these days someone will stump him...

It's all starting to come together! Yesterday, we installed a “teaser” exhibit at St. Louis County Historical Society at the St. Louis County Depot here in Duluth, Minnesota.

The Vatican Unveiled exhibit is a fundraiser for Stella Maris Academy MN and Star of the North Maternity Home--both doing important work supporting children and families in Northern Minnesota.
