From the "Old Farmer's Almanac" reasons why to have a raised garden bed
1.Garden chores are made easier and more comfortable thanks to less bending and kneeling. Save your knees and back from the strain and pain of tending the garden!
2.Productivity of plants is improved due to better drainage and deeper rooting.
3.Raised beds are ideal for small spaces where a conventional row garden might be too wild and unwieldy. 4.Raised beds help to keep things organized and in check.
5.Planting in a raised bed gives you full control over soil quality and content, which is especially important in areas where the existing soil is rocky, nutrient-poor, or riddled with weeds.
6.Raised beds allow for a longer growing season, since you can work the soil more quickly in the spring in frost-hardened regions, or convert the bed into a cold frame in the fall.
7.Fewer weeds are seen in raised beds thanks to the bed being elevated away from surrounding weeds and being filled with disease- and weed-free soil.
8.Raised beds allow for easier square-foot gardening and companion planting.

Raised beds are great: the soil in them warms and dries out earlier in the spring than regular garden beds, so you can get planting sooner. They allow you to garden without fighting stones and roots, and the soil in them stays perfectly fluffy since it doesn't get walked on. "The Spruce"

Raised Garden Beds/Planters; think summer

05/22/2018

Garden Tip: Lettuce and other greens love cool weather -- but crops like tomatoes and peppers don't. Wait to set heat-loving vegetables -- including eggplants, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, or okra -- into your new Raised Garden Planter until all danger of frost has passed.

The ideal height for a raised bed is a matter of preference for gardeners. Considerations include the condition of the soil beneath the bed, soil depth requirements for the intended crop, and especially important to mature gardeners, how much bending over you want to do. You can stack our Raised Garden Planter as high as you like!!

Planning is the key to success for any garden or landscaping you plan to grow this season. Choosing the location, spacing, and feedings is important in the success of your gardening season. Always be on the safe side when you garden so never bite off more than you can chew! Grow a smaller garden in one of our Raised Garden Planters, one that can be taken care of if time is scarce!

Now is the time to think gardening and other outdoor projects

March is the perfect time to get those tomato and pepper seeds started indoors ready for an early spring planting in your new Raised Garden Planter! https://www.etsy.com/shop/outdoorwoodcreations

If you have unripe tomatoes in your Raised Garden Planter still hanging on the vine, and frost is fast approaching, pull the vines out by the roots and hang them upside down in a cool, dark place to finish ripening.

Dig up your herbs out of your Raised Garden Planter to grow inside. Keep them in a cool, sunny spot, and let the soil dry out before watering. Snip leaves whenever you need herbs in your cooking, but don’t strip completely. For herbs that have grown prolifically, cut them back halfway and dry or freeze the extra, or share it with friends.

Grow Crops That Store Themselves in your new Raised Garden Planter. As long as they’re handled gently and given time to cure, dry beans, garlic, onions, sweet potatoes and winter squash will keep for months in a cool, dry place — no processing required. Growing types that store for a long time, such as butternut squash and shallots, will allow you to eat fresh food from your garden all winter.

Water your new Raised Garden Planter as efficiently as You Can. Water is a precious resource everywhere, and no gardener can afford to waste it. For watering summer crops such as okra, peppers, sweet corn and tomatoes, mulches and soaker hoses are extremely helpful. You can also capture water in rain barrels and route to garden beds using perforated soaker hoses.

Use the Right Tools in your Raised Garden Planter. You can create a garden using only a shovel, but the work will be much more efficient and enjoyable if you use tools that fit you and your garden. Long-handled spades and hoes that you can use standing up are best if your garden is big, but consider short-handled tools if you work in small raised beds. Whichever style you use, keeping a sharp edge on all of your spades and hoes will always make them work better. If you’re a female gardener and find that the size, grip and design of garden tools you’ve tried in the past don’t fit you well, Green Heron Tools sells cool gardening tools designed specifically for women.
